Kate Middleton Thanks Royal Fans for Their "Kind Wishes" on Her 39th Birthday

Her celebration will look a little different this year.

Kate Middleton turns 39 years old today (Jan. 9), and in a move fitting of a queen, she chose to celebrate her special day with an uplifting note to the nation.

On Saturday, Kate and Prince William's official Instagram account @KensigntonRoyal shared a sweet photo of the duchess smiling behind her go-to floral face mask, as she waved to the camera during a stop on last month's royal train tour. Organized to highlight the work of NHS Charities Together, Kate and Will made multiple appearances across the U.K. to pay tribute to hospital workers and volunteers for their service amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"Thank you for the kind wishes on The Duchess' birthday," the caption began, before acknowledging the impact of the ongoing health crisis. "Birthdays have been very different in recent months, and our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line at this hugely challenging time."

As the U.K. remains in lockdown, Kate's birthday festivities will look a little different this year. According to Vanity Fair, the Duchess of Cambridge plans to have a low-key celebration at Anmer Hall with her husband and three children: Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2.

And she wouldn't have it any other way."Catherine isn't one for lots of fuss or big parties—being with William and the children is her favorite way of spending her birthday," a friend confirmed to the publication.

Typically, Kate spends her birthday at Anmer with friends and her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, but as coronavirus cases surge, she will have to wait until next year.
