Kanye West Donated $2 Million to the Families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor

And he's paying for Gianna Floyd's college tuition.

Kanye West donated $2 million for the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, CNN reports. In addition to helping out those specific families, West has also dedicated additional funds to assist Black-owned businesses in Chicago and other cites. CNN adds that West also set up a 529 education plan to fully cover Gianna Floyd's college tuition.

Vulture notes that on top of the $2 million, West also made a separate donation, which is set to help with legal fees for Taylor and Arbery. West's donations come in the wake of critics calling him out on Twitter, who pointed out that West has been uncharacteristically quiet after Floyd's death and the Black Lives Matter protests being held all over the world.

Harper's Bazaar adds that West didn't issue any sort of official statement regarding his donations and that details were released to the press via a representative. West's wife, Kim Kardashian, made a public statement on Monday, posting a lengthy note on Instagram.

"For years, with every horrific murder of an innocent black man, woman, or child, I have always tried to find the right words to express my condolences and outrage, but the privilege I am afforded by the color of my skin has often left me feeling like this is not a fight that I can truly take on my own," she wrote. "Not today, not anymore. Like so many of you, I am angry. I am more than angry. I am infuriated and I am disgusted. I am exhausted by the heartbreak I feel seeing mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children suffering because their loved one was murdered or locked away unjustly for being black."

West's donations come after boxer Floyd Mayweather's. The athlete paid for George Floyd's memorial services (ceremonies are set to be held in Charlotte, Houston, Minnesota, and an as-yet-determined location) as well as his funeral, which will take place in Houston, and other expenses.
