In a joint statement to People, the couple explained that while they still have a "deep love and respect for one another," they will not continue in their marriage. The two also noted that while they have shared so much of their relationship with the public, they will be keeping this part of it private. "Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions," the statement reads. "We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together. There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary." They continued, asking for privacy and understanding and saying that they wouldn't be offering any further details on the separation: "We have made this decision together through an immense amount of respect and consideration for one another and request that you do the same in understanding that we will not be sharing any additional details or commenting further." They later got engaged in 2017 and married a year later during a small ceremony in San Diego, California. Cuoco recently posted about their third wedding anniversary with a throwback photo, writing, "Why have you stayed married to me for so long?! I'm sincerely impressed @mrtankcook lol I love you oh so much you have no idea…happy anniversary!!!" Cuoco once told Women's Health that she doesn't need Cook "for anything," though she didn't imply that she wanted to separate. She explained that she saw him as a "bonus" to her already fulfilling life. "If Karl left me tomorrow, I'd be fine. And he knows that, and he would be fine too. I like to tell my friends, 'Always make sure you have your life going, and that you're number one, so that anyone who comes into it — husband, or boyfriend, or girlfriend, however you roll — that's just an added bonus to something you're already creating.'"
