Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson's Relationship Timeline
You can thank Usher for this love story — really.
Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson — you know, the guy from Dawson Creek and an actual queen that happened to be in Queen & Slim — have been keeping their relationship under the radar, but after the couple welcomed their first child together, it seemed like they were finally ready to take things into the spotlight. Aside from a few social media posts and the rare public outing, fans have had to piece together their love story — until now. Here's everything you need to know, including why the two owe a lot to Usher.
Turner-Smith and Jackson meet at Usher's 40th birthday party. Tyler Perry, Kendall Jenner, and Kevin Hart were also in attendance at the big event, which was held at Delilah, a club in West Hollywood.
People reported that the couple had a Sunday afternoon lunch together and they were "all smiles."
The two celebrate New Year's together in Nicaragua. While they're not actually in each other's posts, followers were quick to connect the dots (and match the backdrops).
The Daily Mail reported that the two were seen in Beverly Hills — specifically, at the courthouse, where they acquired a marriage license.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, Turner-Smith didn't confirm any rumors, saying, "I haven't said to anybody, 'Yeah, we got married, People are assuming whatever they want, but when people tell me 'Congratulations,' I say ‘Thank you.'"
She went on to explain why she's keeping the news to herself.
"There was this wave of people who were upset that I was possibly married to a white man. In America, interracial dating or marriage is not something that is as accepted," she said. "Certain people feel strongly against it, in both communities. I felt it from the Black community. It is so complicated. I don't want to give it too much energy. The horrific things that people were saying, it makes you. I'm learning there are certain things I have to really keep for myself."
The two make things red-carpet official at AFI Fest.
People reports that Turner-Smith and Jackson are married — and that they're expecting their first child together.
Turner-Smith posts the sweetest Valentine's Day tribute to Jackson. The gallery also includes a peek at her growing belly.
"Our 2nd valentine's day and it’s even more magical than the first! Here's to a lifetime of them. Happy Valentine's day to the man who sees my soul and holds my heart," she wrote. "Love you, baby daddy."
During a sit-down with W magazine, Turner-Smith said that Pacey Witter, Jackson's character from Dawson’s Creek, was her childhood crush.
The couple confirms that they have a baby girl on the way.
"Favourite moments with baby," Turner-Smith captioned an Instagram Story, adding, "Can you see her dancing in there? Every time I try to record she stops."
People broke the news of the baby's arrival. A representative for Turner-Smith and Jackson told the magazine that "both mother and baby are happy and healthy."
"We had already decided on a home birth, because of concerns about negative birth outcomes for Black women in America — according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risk of pregnancy-related deaths is more than three times greater for Black women than for white women, pointing, it seems to me, to systemic racism," she added.
Jackson wishes his wife a happy Mother's Day.
Turner-Smith calls Jackson her "soulmate" in an Instagram post.
"Big soulmate energy. #1 daddy. just checking in to say that us girls are so lucky to have ya," she wrote.
During the promotion of Little Fires Everywhere, Jackson opened up about parenthood.
"I was going through a pretty significant change during the show: I found out my wife was pregnant," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "So having a collection of supermoms around me helped with everything from finding doctors to baby clothes to 'what to expect' advice."
Jackson wishes Turner-Smith a happy birthday on Instagram.
"Thank you for choosing to share your light with me. Thank you for walking this path of life as my wife. Thank you for bringing our daughter into the world," he wrote. "This last year has been the happiest whirlwind of my life. I can’t wait to see what all the years to come bring our way. Love, Josh."
