"These kids are extremely sharp and witty and funny, and I've never seen children like this before," says Marcil. "Living in complete poverty and sorrow, they are incredible."

"Driving through the outskirts of Johannesburg, we met a group of kids looking for water," Marcil recalls. "They had walked over five miles to find a well."

Marcil brought along a ball of colored twine she'd found at a sewing store, and used it to make bracelets and necklaces as gifts.
