Exclusive: Gabrielle Union's Clothing Line Is Back and Better Than Ever
We hate to play favorites, but when it comes to celebrity style, Gabrielle Union pretty much tops our best dressed list, both on and off the red carpet. Somehow, some way, she's made things like coordinating with your significant other the opposite of cheesy and when it comes to quick fashion tricks, she's got a handful of great ones she's been pulling for years. We already use her outfits as inspiration while getting dressed and now, with the relaunch of her clothing line, it's going to be even easier to steal her style.
Starting on September 22, Gabrielle Union Collection will be releasing monthly drops, which will first be available at both New York & Company and Lord & Taylor before expanding to Fashion to Figure in the future. Initial sizing will range from XS to XXL and US 0 to 20, with nothing in the line topping $150.
Umm, shopping celebrity-approved pieces for under $200? Heck yes.
"My favorite part when launching a line is seeing how everyone styles it," Union tells InStyle over email. "I made this line for all women and I cannot wait to see how everyone wears all the pieces and adds their own personal touch!"
Of course, the actress had more to share about why now was the perfect time for the relaunch, how she'd wear these pieces (time to take notes!), and where she found the time in her busy schedule to design them. Check out the rest of InStyle's interview, ahead, while getting a good look at some of pieces to shop, ASAP.
Why was now the perfect time to relaunch your line?
"Now more than ever, people are constantly thinking ahead and want to be prepared for whatever comes their way in life. I wanted to not only create pieces that were versatile for each person but versatile for every occasion."
You're so busy! How did you find the time to focus on this collection?
"My life is definitely crazier than most, but for me, when you're doing what you love it doesn't feel like a challenge to find time to do the things you enjoy. This line was also inspired by my personal style in so many ways. I've had ideas for what I wanted my next line to look like ever since my last line dropped."
How would you describe your personal style?
"Comfort is key, because I know I feel like my best self when I'm comfortable in what I'm wearing. I'm constantly on the move, so it's important for me to have versatility with my pieces, but not sacrifice the quality. And, of course, I love to have fun with my style as a way to express myself. For example, the red leather pieces are bold, but so soft and easy to move around in — I can run around with the kids and sit through a meeting with my publisher."
Can you tell us about items from this drop that you're most excited about?
"Denim! The fit and wash are perfect and great for all seasons, I'm so excited to style them year-round. They offer the perfect amount of stretch, but also keep you feeling secure while wearing them, which I personally look for when it comes to a pair of jeans."
Where did you get inspiration?
"Women everywhere. Today, women play so many different roles in their life, myself included. It was important for me to celebrate these women and empower them in their everyday lives with a line as unique as every single person who will wear it. The range with this line is my favorite part from the colors to the textures, each piece can be mixed and matched with one another."
Were price points and sizing important things for you to keep in mind? We know there are also plans for future plus-sizes!
"Absolutely — affordable pricing and inclusive sizing were non-negotiable for me! I want to dress and empower as many people as possible and that means having an inclusive size range. My line will go up to XXL/size US 20 at New York & Company and Lord & Taylor, but that doesn't reflect the majority of the women in America today, so of course we have plans to launch even more extended sizing with Fashion to Figure. In addition to sizing, affordability has always been a part of my lines and ensuring that each piece is also made with quality materials was important to me as well."
Could you "put together" your perfect fall outfit using these pieces?
"I would say knitwear is a closet staple for me. The sleeveless cream sweater is the perfect transitional piece for fall and can be dressed up or down. I love to wear it with the knit wide-leg pants when I'm at home, but can easily throw it on with a pencil skirt when I need to run out for a lunch meeting."
