Just 64 days after they got engaged on the shores of Malibu, the sun is setting on Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich's engagement. A source close to the couple said that they've decided to focus on their careers and still respect and love one another.

"It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers," the source told People. "They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together."

The time they spent together includes the coronavirus quarantine, which saw Lovato and Ehrich appearing on social media together (accidentally) and even popping up in Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber's music video. Following the engagement, Lovato wrote that Ehrich is the person who made her want to "to be the best version" of herself. "I knew that I loved you the moment I met you," she added.

Earlier this month, the two celebrated six months together.

"Happy 6 months to my darling, the best father these pups could ever ask for. I love you BEYOND. Thank you for making my life so much better @maxehrich," she wrote on Instagram. "I love you baby."

In regards to focusing on her career, Lovato recently released her new single, "OK Not To Be OK," with Marshmello. Now more than ever, Lovato said that her music is a reflection of herself and her growth.

"When I realized that perfection is unachievable, no matter who you are, you could literally be the most perfect-looking person on the planet, but there will still be something scientifically imperfect with you," she told Zane Lowe on Apple Music. "I had to learn that the hard way."
