A Complete Timeline of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's Love Story
If there's a couple out there that toes the line between relatable and total #relationshipgoals, its Chrissy Teigen and her EGOT-winning People's Sexiest Man Alive husband, John Legend. Through the honors, the kiddos, and all everything that goes down in Teigen's very uncensored social media feeds, they've managed to keep it real with their jokes, supportive comments, and super-romantic banter. Here's how it all went down and how the couple earned its spot in everyone's hearts.
Teigen and Legend meet on the set of the music video for his track "Stereo." Teigen would go on to say that they never said good-bye. She told Cosmopolitan that after the shoot, they got In-N-Out and "hooked up."
"We did the music video, we were together for like 12 hours," Teigen told Wendy Williams back in 2014. "We spent the entire day together, me in my underwear and him in a full suit, and I went to go say goodbye to him, to his hotel and we didn't ever say goodbye that night."
Legend and Teigen broke up, but only for a day. Sure, it sounds like a gimmick, but it's a story that Teigen isn't shy about sharing.
"I was on tour with him and he’d gotten sick," Teigen told Cosmopolitan in 2016. "He was feeling really bummed and stressed out. He was like, 'I can't be in a relationship right now.' That lasted for one day. Literally, a day. I knew it came from a place other than us not working. It was the stress of him having to maybe cancel a show, and he had never been in a real relationship — or so he says now. I always joke, 'Remember when you tried to break up with me?' He’s like, 'Yes, sorry. Big mistake.'"
Chalk it up to that work ethic, because Legend explained that they spent a lot of time talking on the phone and texting, since he was so, so busy.
"I fell in love with her over the phone because she is good with those 140 characters," Legend told Entertainment Tonight in a 2016 interview. "We were texting a lot, and I started to see her sense of humor. We would talk on the phone, and I started to fall in love with how engaging and witty and funny she is."
Of course, everyone wanted to know how serious things were, but Teigen brushed it off.
"Marriage was never my goal," she said in the same Cosmo feature, "because I've never been very traditional. I was just happy to be with him."
The couple also make it Lake Como-official (it's a Thing). In a throwback post, Teigen said that she made a very special wish on that trip — and it would later come true.
"A boat tour guide took us to a little spot on the lake and told us to make a wish," Teigen shared on Instagram. "I asked for this to be the man I marry and have children with. I think John asked for the most perfect bite of cacio e pepe. Both came true, and here we are."
Lake Como aside, the two make it red carpet official at the Grammy Awards.
Legend proposes to Teigen in the Maldives right around Christmas. Naturally, Teigen has a story about how it wasn't exactly a fairy-tale-worthy moment.
"I remember we got into a very big fight in the car on the way to the airport because we had opened our presents beforehand, and he had only gotten me a cookbook and a Crock-Pot," Teigen said during an appearance on FABLife. "I remember him going, 'You just wait!' And I was like, 'Wait for what?!"
Legend has a story about it, too, saying that the whole thing could have been derailed by airport security.
"[The ring] was in my carry-on bag going through airport security, and security wanted to look through my bag and they wanted to look in that particular box," Legend said on Oprah’s Next Chapter. "And Chrissy was standing right next to me and I was, like, 'Oh, my God. I've hid it so well this whole time. Now as we’re just about to get to the Maldives she's going to find out I have a ring in this box and it’s going to ruin the surprise and I'll have to get on my knees in the airport.'"

Teigen and Legend get married at a courthouse in New York City.
"We actually got married after going to a couple Fashion Week shows at Vera Wang, ironically who actually did my dress, but we got married at the courthouse right after," Teigen told E! News, adding that her pal Irina Shayk served as the witness. "We are dumb and didn't realize that our Italian wedding would not be recognized unless we had a real ceremony in New York City."
Speaking of that Italian wedding ...

They get married in Lake Como.
"One of the first vacations we took together was to Lake Como, so we thought it would be nice to marry where we fell in love," Legend told Martha Stewart Weddings.
Teigen nabs another Legend music video with "All of Me," which would go on to become one of the crooner's most popular songs. It happens to be about her, so everything seemed to come together just fine.
"The first line of it is, 'What would I do without your smart mouth,' so if that's not about me I don't know what is," Teigen told Huffington Post . "I did cry when I heard it. I'm emotional, but like I don't really don't cry at things like that so yeah, it was beautiful. And live it's pretty unreal."
The couple nab the cover of DuJour. Bruce Weber snapped the photos.
"We want a lot of kids," Teigen said in the accompanying story. "I would love to have three or four of my own, and then adopt a few. So basically I'll be pregnant the rest of my life."
Teigen announces that she's pregnant with the couple's first child. Before the big news, she was open about her struggle to conceive and revealed that their their first child would come via IVF.
Baby no. 1 arrives: Luna Simone Stephens.
Teigen would go on to share her experience with postpartum depression with Glamour.
"I know he must look over at times and think: My God, get it together. But he has never made me feel that way," she wrote. "I love John and Luna more than I can imagine loving anything, and John and I still hope to give Luna a few siblings. Postpartum hasn't changed that."
Luna takes her first trip to Lake Como. It's a special place for the whole family now. They actually go to the house where Legend and Teigen filmed "All of Me."
Teigen talks about her struggles with IVF with The Cut.
"It's a complete miracle when it works. There are so many people that still struggle, even with access to IVF. You hear stories about IVF working the first try. But you'll hear a lot more stories about when it takes a few times," she said. "You just look for anything to blame, especially yourself. I think hearing stories is just really important. You realize there's no right way to do it, or right way to react."
Baby announcement no. 2. Teigen and Luna announce that the family is expecting a son, also conceived through IVF.
Miles Theodore Stephens is born.
Legend manages to complete the EGOT. After nabbing his Emmy, he's earned it all: Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. It happens on the anniversary of the couple's courthouse wedding.
The duo get matching tattoos.
"Hey guys please don’t talk to us unless u have tattoos we are a cool tattoo family now and we only want to talk to other tattoo families (srry if this seems harsh)," Teigen wrote on Instagram.
The entire family is featured on the cover of Vanity Fair.
"There are some famous couples I look at and I'm like, 'Ugh, we get it. Stop trying so hard, you're so lame,'" Teigen said. "I think people definitely think that about us but ... that's because I think of everything."
