Charlize Theron Shared a Rare Photo of Her Two Daughters

She commemorated her mother's birthday with sweet snapshots.

It's a family affair for Charlize Theron. Today, the Oscar-winning actor posted a gallery of images to Instagram celebrating her mother's birthday. And while it was Gerda's big day, fans got a glimpse at Theron's two daughters, 7-year-old August and 10-year-old Jackson. Theron's carousel of images included a photo of Gerda, August, and Jackson on a hike together. While it's not unheard of for Theron to give peeks at her daughters, it's always a special occasion to see them on social media.

"Today is my mom's birthday. I wanted to share her with all of you because anyone who knows her, knows how utterly awesome it's is to stand in her sunlight. She TRULY is life. She laughs louder than anyone I've ever met," Theron wrote alongside the photos, which also showed sweet photos of the mother-daughter duo at Disneyland, the beach, and lounging poolside. "She's a great tennis player/golfer/hiker AND a gifted shit talker! She's direct, she's honest, she funny, and she'll tell you how it is anytime [sic] of the day! Ma, ek lief jou oor die maan."

To commemorate the new year, Theron shared a photo of herself lounging with her younger daughter and her dog, writing, "New year, same energy."

Theron adopted Jackson back in 2012 and welcomed August in 2015. In a 2019 interview with NPR, Theron spoke about the adoption process and how she met her children, saying that it was never planned in any specific way. It was simply a coincidence that both her daughters were from America.

"I wanted to believe that somehow my child would find me in the way that we were just meant to be," she said. "So I wasn't specific with anything. [...] In whatever country they would allow me as a single woman to adopt, that's where I filed. And it just happened to be that both my children ended up being American. They were born in the United States and they both happened to be African American."
