Celebrity Couples Who Abandoned the Aisle and Eloped
Celebrity weddings tend to be giant, blow-out events where the flower arrangements alone cost six figures. But just because a couple has the funds for a fairytale wedding, doesn't mean they necessarily want one. Plenty of stars have tied-the-knot on the sly, and we're rounding up some favorites for a little inspiration. (Ya know, just in case you want to get your elope on...)
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher
The Wedding Crashers star married her comedian husband during a low-key elopement in Paris on March 15, 2010. Just a few family members were in attendance, but who needs more when you're in The City of Love?
Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter
Dexter co-stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter might play brother and sister on the show, but they hit it off IRL and decided to elope on New Year's Eve 2008. Best way to start a new life chapter ever. (P.S. While Michael and Jennifer didn't last, Michael recently got married to Morgan Macgregor at City Hall. Clearly, dude likes a low-key ceremony.)
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin
You'd think Gwyneth Paltrow would have gone all-out with a perfectly Goop-y wedding, but she and Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin, got married on the DL by eloping in Santa Barbara back in December 2003. Of course, they've since consciously uncoupled.
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren
Jessica and her husband got married while expecting their daughter, Honor, and decided to do it up old-school — by tying the knot at a courthouse in Beverly Hills back in 2008. The bride wore a simple blue dress instead of the more traditional white, and the ceremony was reportedly conducted by a courthouse staffer.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock
The powerhouse singer eloped with Brandon Blackstock, and even tweeted about the unusual decision: "We are eloping for for one reason only. We both want an intimate ceremony." Fair 'nuff.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
Kelly and Mark met on the set of All My Children, and get this: after realizing they had a rare day off from filming, they decided to mosey on over to Las Vegas and tie the knot, 1996 style. They weren't even engaged at the time, so this elopement was legit.
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton
Remember when Angelina Jolie spent her time wearing a vial of Billy Bob's blood around her neck? Yeah, well their love was intense — so intense that they eloped in Vegas two months after dating. Seems like a totally normal, rational decision…
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
These on-again off-again lovebirds (who are currently expecting a child, btw) wed in a beach-side ceremony with Brian's son, Kassius, as their only witness, but that doesn't mean Megan didn't go all out for her gown. Hello, Armani.
