You know it was a great year for fashion on the Oscars red carpet when the only thing to complain about is that there weren’t enough ball gowns. I’m kidding! There can never be not enough ball gowns. Not only did almost every major actress opt for dresses that looked modern, comfortable, and economical in the amount of space they inhabited, but they also took some chances. And the strongest trend of the night, surprisingly, was that so many looks were covered from neck to ankle, yet still quite sexy with their lovely lace panels, narrow sleeves, and tapered waistlines. RELATED: All the Celebrity Looks from the 2017 Academy Awards Red Carpet It’s almost as if a silhouette of the golden days of Hollywood had returned, freshened up for today’s viewers with messy or natural hairstyles, and big statement jewels (Taraji P. Henson, Jessica Biel, and Dakota Johnson, I’m looking at you.) Meanwhile, there were color stories galore—gold, for sure, but also some great black or midnight navy dresses (Taraji again, in Alberta Ferretti, Brie Larson in Oscar de la Renta, and Kirsten Dunst in Dior Haute Couture). But we’re here to recognize the best of the night, so read on for my choices for the night’s top 10 dresses, which were surprisingly tough to choose on a night with so many winners.
Ah, the early aughts. If you’re old enough to remember the days of careless bell-bottom wear, the nation’s love of pink-on-pink-on-pink, and the bedazzling fad, then you can appreciate just how far we’ve come in the past 15 years. To my knowledge, there is no greater show of 2002-dom than the epic Hollywood premiere of Crossroads, back when star Britney Spears was, of course, “not a girl, and not yet a woman.” Not only did the event give us some classic Britney and Justin action, we also got to enjoy the likes of a denim-clad Hilary Duff and an adorable 12-year-old Brie Larson (golden ringlets and all). Don’t recall? Aren’t constantly thumbing through the Hollywood archives of the early aughts? We’ve got you covered. Behold, the most incredible looks from the premiere of Crossroads, 15 (!!!) years ago. Enjoy, Britney and JT shippers. The Hunger Games, The Notebook, Room, and of course Harry Potter are all living proof of how an amazing book can become a blockbuster hit. While there are some adaptations that fall flat (we're looking at you The Giver), plenty more are able to translate their literary magic onto the big screen. 2017 is shaping up to be a big year for book-to-film adaptations: Hidden Figures earning award nominations and making big box office money, and then there's 50 Shades Darker, which, if its panty-dropping trailer is any indication, is bound to draw in millions. VIDEO: The Definitive List of the Best Movies of 2016 [brightcove:5246654132001 player_1] We have high hopes for some of our favorite movie adaptation, like Jeannette Walls's moving memoir, The Glass Castle, starring Brie Larson and Naomi Watts, and the brilliant Dave Eggers's The Circle with Emma Watson and Tom Hanks (talk about a dream team). RELATED: The 8 Books We're Most Excited for in 2017 Scroll down below to take a look at the most anticipated book-to-movie adaptations this year (although you'll have to wait until 2018 for a few of them), and read up before they hit theaters.
With Cinderella-worthy silver sparklers, bright yellow and soft pink dresses, and a trio of near-bare chests, the Golden Globes fashion parade sent a strong message of optimism—or just manic wildness—just when the world needed a reason to cheer. At the start of what promises to be a wild new era, at least it wasn't dreary. From my vantage point at the Globes—literally with my face pressed to the glass as Tom Hiddleston ran into Nicole Kidman and played impromptu fashion reporter—the best dresses of the night were all about the flash factor. In fact, there was only one classic dress that made it anywhere near my Top 10 looks of the night.

It’s hard to motivate yourself to work out—especially in the dead of winter. If you need a healthy dose of #fitspo, look no further than stars like Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, who frequently take to Instagram to document their respective exercise regimens—most of which are available to the public. Ahead of your New Year’s resolutions, consider switching up your regular routine with any of the classes listed below. You might bump into a familiar face or two.
As a frequent moviegoer with a terrible memory, IMDb just might be my most visited website. Often times, I can barely wait for the lights to go up to yank out my phone and frantically Google what movie I know that supporting character from after having the question swirl around in my head for 90 minutes. Honestly, I’d rather watch the film from the comfort of my couch so I can search the entire cinematic history of each actor who graces the screen without being yelled at by an usher. Clearly, I’m not alone, as the site boasts 250 million monthly unique visitors, most of whom I can only imagine are doing the same. As Netflix fanatics binge-watched Stranger Things this summer, they searched en masse for the cinematic background that brought us stars like Millie Bobby Brown and Natalia Dyer and the Girl on the Train obsession had many wondering who exactly Haley Bennett is. Spoiler alert, she’s not the same person as Jennifer Lawrence, despite the uncanny resemblance. In fact, the interest in Brown and Bennett was so big, they even made the site's list of top stars of 2016. They both landed above Leonardo DiCaprio on the ranking of the years' most searched-for celebs—and the man won his first, long-awaited Oscar this year. VIDEO: The Top 10 IMDb Breakout Stars of 2016 IMDb categorized celebs as “breakout stars” if they charted on IMDb’s annual Top 100 list for the first time in their careers in 2016. They ranked the 10 celebs that had the highest page views of any of these “new” faces, making them 2016’s hottest new celebs. So keep scrolling to meet all of the actors and actresses who popped up on our radar this year—and we can expect to see much more of in the next.

The Toronto International Film Festival 2016 is coming to a close and this year, there has been no shortage of phenomenal films or incredible talent, both seasoned veterans and buzzed-about up-and-comers. In between red carpet appearances, film premieres and interviews, the stars made sure to stop at InStyle's pop-up portrait studio this year, where the fun really begins. Naomi Watts bumped into bestie Nicole Kidman and a selfie moment ensued, editors' jaws dropped as Lupita Nyong'o dazzled in a gorgeous Valentino number for our cameras, and Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis cracked up the entire studio when they began swapping most embarrassing parenting moments with one another. We celebrated Taraji P. Henson's birthday right in our studio (cake and all!), and so much more.
