A Complete Timeline of Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez's Relationship
A quick listen to the Ariana Grande songbook is enough to let fans know that she knows a thing or two about love. Fans are also probably familiar with the superstar singer's love life, thanks to her very public relationships — including one involving a pre-Kim Kardashian Pete Davidson. That familiarity (she did write a song called "Pete Davidson," after all) could be why her whirlwind romance with real estate broker Dalton Gomez seemed to come out of nowhere, just like their surprise wedding back in 2021.
Instead of trying to decipher how the two met through the This Is Ariana Grande Spotify playlist, here's everything you need to know about the two, from their first kiss to that picture-perfect wedding.
According to People, Grande and Dalton started dating at the beginning of 2020. Instead of a headline-grabbing love affair, Grande decided to keep this relationship out of the spotlight, especially after she ended her engagement to Pete Davidson in October 2018
"They have been hanging out for a couple of months," a source told People. "Ariana doesn't want to do another public relationship, so she is trying to keep this one quiet, but she seems very happy with Dalton."
TMZ published creepily voyeuristic images of Grande kissing someone it dubbed a "mystery man," adding that he "might not even be all that famous" because he wasn't "instantly recognizable."
Later that month, fans would connect a few dots and find that Grande and her friends were following Gomez and his brother Dakota on Instagram. The news came after rumors that he joined the close-knit group of friends for a game night on February 22.
TMZ strikes again when one of its photographers manages to get photos of the couple kissing at Bar Louie in Northridge, Calif.
Like the rest of the world, Grande goes into lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She's not alone, however, because Gomez is right there with her, according to People.
"Ariana is staying at home with friends. She is very serious about self-distancing and has been with the same group of people for days," a source said. "One of the people she is with right now is Dalton."
Eagle-eyed fans spot him in one of Grande's Instagram Stories thanks to his distinct tattoos. As the month comes to a close, Grande posts a preview of a song to Instagram and many presume that she's addressing her relationship.
The lyrics go like this: "You got me all up in my feels / In all kind of ways / I be tryna wait but lately, I just wanna keep it real / No more playin' safe / Let's take it all the way."
Whether or not his arm in a Story counts as going Instagram-official, Gomez makes a full-on cameo in Grande's music video for "Stuck With U," her duet with Justin Bieber. Grande and Gomez can be seen slow-dancing and hugging in the clip.
After the video hit the airwaves, the two are seen at a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles.
Things go Instagram-official in the summer, when Gomez makes a proper appearance on her feed.
And because she's generous, there were more snapshots of them together when Grande celebrated her birthday with a Midsommar-themed party.
The next month, Grande wished Gomez a happy birthday with a celebratory gallery on Instagram.
"hbd to my baby my best friend my fav part of all the days," she wrote. "i love u."
Grande releases a new album, Positions. Fans are convinced the songs are about her life with Gomez.
"Love Language" makes a few real estate references: "I ain't tryna sign no lease / I'm just gon' make you my home."
Leon Thomas III, one of the album's producers, told Insider that "Safety Net" was inspired by "a conversation about free-falling into real love."
"We both were kind of just geeking out about our newfound loves," he said of the track. "I usually don't say anything about stuff like that, but I mean, the news is out that she's in a relationship right now."
Merry Christmas to Arinators — Grande announced that Gomez proposed. She captioned the Instagram announcement with "forever n then some."
Even with the big news, the couple keep things quiet.
"He likes keeping his relationship with Ari private," a source told People. "This phase of her life has been very quiet and uneventful in a good way."
In a surprise move, the two announced that they got married in a small, intimate ceremony at their home, with fewer than 20 guests.
"They got married!" Grande's team confirmed with People on May 17. "It was tiny and intimate — less than 20 people. The room was so happy and full of love. The couple and both families couldn't be happier."
Another year, another round of birthday celebrations on social media. Grande posted a video to her Stories showing a low-key celebration with a Slinky toy and plastic tiaras on her birthday and posted another homage to her husband to commemorate his 26th.
