Wine Lipstick

Deep bordeaux lipsticks had a serious moment on the fall and winter runways, but the wine lip trend was popular as early as the 1920s and '30s, spotted on stars like Clara Bow. The color is a dead ringer for the wine shade Anne Hathaway wore to the New York City premiere of Les Miserables.

In the midst of the disco era, Diana Ross formed her natural curls into a trendy rounded coiff, acting as a hair muse for women in the '70s. Today's version, as seen on Solange Knowles, packs the same amount of volume, but with a more effortless texture. "Natural hair has the versatility of being able to do so many things," Knowles told InStyle.

While January Jones's rosy highlights may not be as punk rock as Stefani's full color, they're a modern take on the look with a touch of runway inspiration. "I was following the shows for spring/summer and was looking for trends and colors when I came across rose gold highlights from the Peter Som runway," said Jones's colorist, Jennifer J. "I asked January to check out the trend online and she loved it!"

From Brigitte Bardot to Kim Kardashian, a sexy flesh-toned lipstick is a trend that transcends bombshells of every generation. "A nude lip is always sexy," Kardashian told us. We agree! The pale color is great for balancing a dramatic eye, but can make a statement worn on its own.

Although Jessica Alba's ombre highlights are a modern trend, her defined waves act as a nod to silver screen icon Veronica Lake. "The key to this look is a flawless blowout," said hairstylist Harry Josh, who works with Rose Byrne. "The waves need to be completely controlled, and any hint of frizz will disrupt the style."

Between the mod looks showcased by Twiggy and Ginnifer Goodwin, it seems that the only thing to change was each stars' hair color! All things '90s seem to be having a renaissance these days, and Drew Barrymore's grungy look fits right in with today's trends-right down to her burgundy lip. Although Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had a slightly different style back then, the twins' smoky shadow and tousled waves serve as a nod to the glory days of Nirvana and flannel shirts.

At the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, Nicole Richie concentrated the bold shade just on her lids, then blended out the edges for a natural-looking fade. The azure feel continued with a swipe of navy liner along her waterline.
