La Prairie's Night Cream Is a Work of Art

La Prairie's Pure Gold Nocturnal Radiance Balm is one product I always leave out on my bathroom counter. Not just because the refillable gilded jar is nearly as big as my face, but it easily passes a piece of art, too.

As for what's inside the eye-catching vessel, as with the rest of the Swiss Luxury Skincare brand's Pure Gold line, the rich and decadent night cream is infused with actual gold to kickstart the skin's reparative process, along with additional active ingredients to hydrate and strengthen.

According to the brand, the delivery system of the ingredients provide a "three-peak action sequence to the skin." In plain English, this means that when applied before bed, it instantly illuminates the skin, you'll notice a glow in the morning after the active ingredients penetrate the skin while you sleep, and you'll notice stronger, supple skin with continued use.

There's also a marble facial stone included inside the lid to massage in the night cream or your serums. And it can be used to help relax tense facial muscles, like the jaw.

This luxury comes with a price, even by La Prairie standards. The Pure Gold Radiance Nocturnal Balm rings in at $975 and $880 for a refill, which is on the higher end of the brand's other products. For example, the rest of the Pure Gold line ranges from $665 for the eye cream and $890 for the radiance cream moisturizer.

Given the Pure Gold Radiance Nocturnal Balm wouldn't look out of place on display in a gallery, La Prairie has an art tie-in to celebrate its launch. The brand partnered with artist Carla Chan on an NFT that debuted at Frieze New York in May. Titled Fading Space of Dawn, the digital piece is inspired by the ever-changing landscapes, like the fading of the Swiss Alps, which the brand is aiming to halt via contributions to preservation organizations.

While I've tried many fancy skincare products over the years, this night cream is probably the most expensive. The results, however, are impressive. My skin is immediately glowy upon massaging it into my skin and when I wake up, it's equally as soft and radiant. It's also worth noting that a little bit of the balm goes along way — I imagine I'll have it for awhile. Plus, the vessel and marble stone are a one-time purchase I can keep forever.

We know that seven to nine hours of sleep per night is ideal, and while I can't say I always hit this goal, this balm will at least help me look well rested.

The Splurge is our recurring column dedicated to expensive beauty products that are worth it. This week, why we love La Prairie Pure Gold Radiance Nocturnal Balm despite the $975 price tag.
