Overshare time: Every few years, my body does this really cool thing where I have breakthrough bleeding for a month straight, despite being on birth control. And each and every time I continue the same cycle where I quit my birth control, make an appointment to try another method, and then remember that one of the benefits of life as a gay woman is that I don’t actually need it for the purpose of you know, avoiding pregnancy.

I do, however, rely on birth control to keep my acne and heavy menstrual cramps under control, but I’m all about immediate solutions and not long-term ones. So while my marathon bleed is now over, the rollercoaster of hormone fluctuations I sent my body on has predictably caused my skin to break out into a frenzy. Luckily, there’s one product that’s helped me get it back in check: Kiehl’s Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal Concentrate.

I’d been eyeing the facial oil for a few weeks while waiting for my latest one to run out and researching hemp-based beauty products. It wasn’t until I woke up with a fun new collection of hormone-induced friends on my chin and forehead that I made the purchase. In an effort to move my skincare routine to an entirely clean one, I figured using the natural oil would be a good call compared to slathering on something harsh.

Lucky for me, it delivered. I followed the instructions by finishing up my morning routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing by massaging my skin with a few drops of the lightweight oil. Since I’ve been going makeup-free as of late, I could immediately see my complexion was noticeably less red and irritated even after just one use. Continuing to use it day and night has been a life-saver as I get my skin back on track.

While the oil is THC and CBD-free, it does rely on cannabis sativa seed oil, peppermint oil, and an assortment of skin-clearing natural ingredients to calm down blemish-prone skin. Its scent isn’t as strong as you’d think it would be — slightly earthy but not overwhelming. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s safe to say it’s become my new go-to for tackling problem skin, but I’m not the only one who’s made it their solution.

“I started using this during the pandemic because my sensitive skin was going bananas being covered with a mask,” one Nordstrom shopper said . “This calmed my skin down and, surprisingly, my skin is even softer and smoother than before! I never write reviews but I've recommended this to so many friends now, it seemed right to do this!”

Right now, you can head to Nordstrom to grab the sativa-based Kiehl’s facial oil I now swear by for keeping my skin cool, calm, and clear.
