Kelly Ripa Is Making up for Years of Sun Damage With This Best-Selling Sunscreen
Growing up, I poured beer in my hair to make it lighter. Growing up, Kelly Ripa poured baby oil on her skin to make it tanner. Beauty is pain but it is also naivety. We do lots of things just to look better, although what I did at the beach made me smell like a frat party gone wrong and what Ripa did can actually cause bodily harm like skin cancer. She knows that, and recently told The Strategist she’s been making up for years of sun damage now by using a specific bottle of sunscreen.
Apparently the La Roche-Posay sunscreen she uses isn’t just her favorite, it’s one of the eight things she can’t live without. Maybe sunscreen doesn’t seem like the sexiest choice, but the French brand is known for making sunscreens that people frequently describe as perfect. Notably, its Melt-In Sunscreen Milk earned a perfect score from Consumer Reports five years in a row. Both its Sunscreen Milk and Tinted Mineral Fluid have nearly a thousand five-star reviews on Amazon.
Ripa says she loves the sunscreen because it’s broad-spectrum and covers UVA, UVB, and everything in between. It’s also tinted in a way that gives her a sun-kissed glow without making her skin look orange or uncharacteristically dark. Ripa appreciates the light coverage and it’s not hard to see why. Most people dread the awkward white-cream look that lingers for minutes after most sunscreen application, and this one cuts through the BS and makes you look tan on the spot. Apparently it feels as light as your makeup primer.
I’ll admit, I still pour beer in my hair to make it lighter but I’m considering adding the Ripa-approved sunscreen to my beach bag come summer. There is, after all, nothing like a cold Coronita in your hair and a thin layer of sun-kissed sunscreen on your skin. And even though Ripa doesn’t drink anymore, I’m inclined to think she’d agree.
