Shopping for deodorant can get dicey, especially with all the controversy about ingredients —namely, aluminum — being linked to hormonal changes within the body and even cancer. It's not a hard-and-true fact yet, but it freaks me out enough to spend a little more cash on a non-toxic alternative that doesn't leave me with sweat stains on my white button-up. Enter Biossance Squalane + Bamboo Deodorant.

The common complaint about natural deodorant is that they're not powerful enough to mask odor or absorb moisture (AKA, they don't work). Sometimes, those complaints are warranted; Trust me when I say the road to finally finding this deodorant was a very sweaty (and unfortunately, smelly) one.

Before I get into the product, it's important to note that what I'm talking about is deodorant —which means it regulates odor and doesn't totally eliminate you from sweating. Those that stop you from sweating and mask odor are antiperspirants, and they're usually made with aluminum.

The Biossance Squalane + Bamboo Deodorant is a white, solid stick. It's free of aluminum and uses naturally-derived ingredients to help get the job done. A combination of grapefruit, geranium, and clary sage essential oils neutralizes odor, and squalane to nourish this sensitive area and allow the formula to glide onto your skin.

The most glaring downside is that it's $16, and to put that into perspective, most conventional deodorant sticks you can find in the drugstore retail for less than $5. It's pricey, but it works, which is pretty non-negotiable for a deodorant.

You're probably thinking something along the lines of, "That's all fine and good, but I don't want to sweat!"

I get it. This deodorant won't completely stop you from sweating, but the bamboo powder in the formula absorbs the moisture, so you don't have to worry about soaking through your shirt. I road-tested it while running around humid New York City for appointments, standing on million-degree subway platforms, and stressing to meet a deadline at work, and I experienced zero sweat or stench.

Yes, I've found a few other natural formulas that have worked, but Biossance's nourishing, soothing formula is by far one of my favorites. As far as I'm concerned, spending $16 for peace of mind and the complete absence of body odor is worth it.
