InStyle's editorial guidelines Updated on November 21, 2022 @ 03:09PM Pin Share Tweet Email We can all agree that one of the easiest ways to keep up with beauty trends is at the tip of our fingers. Unlike getting a major haircut or trying out a slew of buzzy skincare ingredients, changing up your nails is a fun and easy way to play with colors, textures, designs, and shapes. We're looking forward to keeping our tried-and-true classic nail colors close to our hearts, but we're also excited to dip our toes into the trendy waters. So, we tapped three celebrity nail artists for their predictions and found some impressive search statistics to find the top 11 nail trends you'll see this year and beyond. Courtesy/InStyle Blue Nail Polish "Always a favorite, we won't see bright blue going anywhere anytime soon," predicts Rachel Apfel Glass, founder of GLOSSLAB. "The classic shade will carry us well into the new year and early spring, so if you haven't tried it yet you must. Pastels also feel warm and can brighten any mood." 12 Hair Colors Experts Say Will Be Everywhere in 2022 Press-Ons Will Continue Their Reign KISS Reddy Or Not imPRESS Color Press-On Manicure KISS Reddy Or Not imPRESS Color Press-On Manicure KISS "The press-on nail market is going to be explosive," predicts celebrity nail artist, Gina Edwards. "Now that our lives are getting closer to normal and we spoiled ourselves with DIY nails during the height of the pandemic, people are finding it easier to place a full cover nail on in minutes." This aligns with Klarna's findings, that they shared with InStyle, too. According to the buy-now-pay-later company, press-on nails saw a 363 percent year over year increase in searches since the start of the pandemic, and a 95 percent increase since last year. Nailscapes A dash of escapism never hurt anyone. Pinterest predicts that nail painted with dream-worthy designs inspired by nature will be all the rage. The company found that searches for galaxy nail art are up 115 percent since last year, geode nail art is up 200 percent, ocean nails 500 percent, desert nails 105 percent, and aurora nails 400 percent. Very Peri Polish When Pantone revealed this as the color of the year, the internet went crazy for the sweet shade. According to Klarna, there was a 2,457 percent increase in purchases of lilac nail polishes through its app in the past 30 days, and Rita Remark, a New York-based celebrity nail artist, predicts it'll be everywhere in the new year. "It's surprisingly versatile," she says, suggesting Essie's Wink of Sleep nail polish. Very Peri, Pantone's Color of the Year, Can Actually Help You Manifest In 2022 "Milk Foam" Color Combo "This unexpected pairing will certainly be a trend," predicts Apfel Glass, who says that many of GLOSSLAB's clients love the complementary color combination. "The youthful color combo, known as the 'milk foam' trend of soft pinks and browns pops with any outfit, and you can even get creative like the example above with hearts and accent nails." Coffin-Shaped Nails "Nail shapes vary from almond to stiletto to square, but I think coffin-shaped nails will continue to rise," predicts Edwards. "It's a sleeker look from your traditional square, and it's more relatable in today's fashion. I think of coffin shape as an architectural nail." To try out the trend without committing to it fully, try a set of KISS's Fantasy Sculpted Nails. Midnight Black Polish Don't be afraid to go to the dark side in the new year. "Classic black nails will be totally in. Ask for a plain black manicure to go with their all-black wardrobes," says Apfel Glass. Rainbow-Colored Tips "The trend of colorful French manicures is back and stronger than ever," says Apfel Glass. "We're seeing the trend in each of our Manhattan studios as clients gravitate toward the fun, out-of-the-box design trend." Choose one statement shade for a uniform mani, or switch it up and throw in all your favorite colors for added fun. Nail Stickers Will Have Their Moment Olive & June Eye Love Your Mani Stickers Olive & June Eye Love Your Mani Stickers Olive & June Don't want to do your own nail art? No problem. Just throw on a nail sticker and call it a day. These handy stick-on designs have been on the rise during the last few years, and Klarna saw a 167 percent increase in nail sticker searches over the past three months. Safe to say these are here to stay. Barbie-Pink Nails "We're seeing neon pop on the runways and in our studios," says Apfel Glass. "So, for someone who likes bold and fun shades, make neon pink your go-to during your next mani." In case you need more convincing, Edwards also agrees that bright magenta will reign in the new year. Matte Topcoats You don't need a specific color or nail shape to make a statement. "Adding a matte topcoat on top of any shade has a transformative effect," agrees Remark. "Over metallic, it looks steel. Over cream, it looks velvet. Over pearl, satin. This finish will be trending all year." To achieve this trend, simply throw on a matte topcoat, such as Essie's Mattifying Top Coat, after you've finished painting your nails.
