This week's look—by manicurist Casey Herman—falls into the latter camp. First, lay down a coat of clear base—or, if you want to mask discoloration, use a super-pale pink polish like Essie Gel Couture in "Fairy Tailor" ($12; essie.com) instead. Add a clear top coat for extra shine. Then, dip a striper brush in Butter London's "Union Jack Black" polish ($15; butterlondon.com) and outline an elongated diamond on each nail. Finish with clear top coat, and you've got yourself a sleek design that doubles as bling.
