Leave it to TikTok to make the latest viral beauty trend all about looking clean. But if you've never heard of the trend or are simply just confused about what exactly it means, allow us to explain.

First thing to know: the "clean look" trend has racked up over 19 million views on the app, featuring people showcasing their neat and put-together styles. And, of course, it's all about having effortless "model-off-duty" vibes — basically a put-together aesthetic from head-to-toe.

The topic started trending after TikTok user Eva Rankin posted a beauty tutorial titled "how to achieve the ✨clean✨ look" following a comment on another video of hers saying "you look so clean" — a seemingly unusual, but flattering compliment nonetheless.

Her original tutorial, which now has over one million likes and nearly eight million views, sparked a wave of users posting their versions of this minimalist trend. Most video recreations consist of that no-makeup makeup look and slicked-back hairstyles paired with a neutral-toned outfit in an effort to look, well, "clean" too.

While there's been a ton of type around the look, turns out it isn't all that revolutionary or innovative. After all, it's all about having a glowing complexion with simple makeup, frizz-free hair, and a classic wardrobe.

However, if you're just focusing on the makeup, it does highlight a very beginner-friendly way to achieve a glowing and timeless makeup look that works for everyone. And with only five makeup products, you can re-create this look on your own.

Here's how.

Step One: Sunscreen

With so many videos on the app showing how to do a clean look, there are various ways to execute the simplistic finish. However, the five products Rankin goes for are a glowing sunscreen, brow gel, concealer, a tinted lip balm, and mascara.

First, she starts by applying Supergoop Glowscreen Sunscreen ($36, dermstore.com) all over her face. This sunscreen acts double duty as a makeup primer because its hydrating formula adds a dewy, luminous glow to the skin.

Step Two: Concealer

Next, she applies a creamy concealer underneath the eyes to brighten and highlight her complexion.

If you're looking for more coverage, Karoline Karakeosian, a national professional makeup artist for Valentino Beauty, recommends mixing a glowing primer, like the Valentino V-Lighter Face Base Primer and Highlighter ($58, nordstrom.com), with a foundation that has a glowy finish.

Step Three: Eyebrow Gel

"Brush the eyebrows into shape and fill in any gaps by applying a brow pen in soft hairlike strokes," says Karakeosian. "This technique is perfectly in line with the fluffy brows trend that is all over TikTok at the moment."

You can also skip filling them in and only shape them upward using a brow gel, like Rankin, if you're going for a more natural-looking vibe. One to try is Kimiko Brow Sensei Gel ($33, kimikobeauty.com) because the thin brush makes it easy to comb and shape every hair, and the formula keeps the brows in place all day without flaking.

Step Four: Lip Balm

Once you're done, a swipe of a tinted lip balm is all you need to add some color to your lips. Pro tip: you can also apply a touch of the tinted balm or a cream blush to the cheeks to add dimension and a healthy, natural flush to the face, says Billie Gene, a celebrity makeup artist. Tresluce Beauty Ready to Bounce Blush ($16, treslucebeauty.com) is great for this because it offers beautiful pigmentation and is very easy to blend.

Step Five: Mascara

Finally, finish off the final look with a couple of coats of mascara. Considering the look is all about keeping things natural, fresh-faced, and minimal, we recommend choosing a mascara with a thin wand to add natural lift and volume to the eyes without clumping or looking too overdone. The Neogen Extra Slim Metal Maxicara ($34, neogen.com) effortlessly coats up to the smallest lashes without clumping thanks to its sleek, thin wand.
