Spring makeup is always fun. With longer, warmer days and all of the blooming flowers, it's impossible not to be inspired to get more creative with your looks, whether it's switching from a classic cat eye to a graphic shape or swapping your tinted lip balm for a shiny red lip.

But, spring 2022 feels a bit different, doesn't it? Given the current news cycle, we're all looking to find pockets of joy in our lives wherever we can – whether it's (finally) meeting up with friends for an in-person rooftop happy hour or wearing a cat eye made from crystal decals.

That being said, this spring's makeup trends got the memo. And since we're all spending more time outdoors and our social calendars are once again stacked, here's your opportunity to wear some of these gorgeous and just plain fun looks.

From extra glowy skin to pops of neon eyeshadow, the following spring makeup trends will keep your spirits lifted all season long.

1. Negative Space Cat Eye

Important PSA: Your lash line isn't the only place to wear eyeliner. Experiment with a graphic cat eye by extending the wing out and above the crease of the eye like Jodie Turner Smith. A classic black liquid eyeliner is all you need to achieve the look, but you can also play with various shades of liner, as seen on Shay Mitchell. After creating a black cat eye, her makeup artist Ash K Holm added a mauve line above the crease of her eye for a pop of color.

2. Clean Girl Makeup

While no-makeup makeup is a bit of an oxymoron, you don't need a ton of products to look like you have the clean, clear, glowy skin of a carefree person. To keep the focus on your natural glow, use an SPF-infused tint to prevent sun damage, plus you'll get a little bit of coverage that still lets your natural complexion shine through.

3. Pops of Neon

Neon eye makeup is having a moment. With brighter days ahead and two years of focusing on the eyes due to wearing masks, it's no surprise that bold eyeliner and eyeshadow are still trending. An easy way to nail this trend is by adding a pop of color to the inner eyes and/or swapping your black eyeliner for a colored one. Here, Storm Reid does both with this abstract eyeliner look by Pauly Blanch. And if wearing bright eye makeup is out of your comfort zone, a simple wash of color like Solange's lime green eyeshadow is a subtle take on the trend.

With more in-person meetups and events on the calendar, and masks in many instances being optional, it's time to dust off the bold lipsticks that have been collecting dust throughout the pandemic, including your go-to red. An easy, fresh take on the classic lip color is to pair it with minimal, fresh-faced makeup or mix two red shades like Georgie Eisdell did on Anya Taylor-Joy. The makeup artist Layered Dior Rouge lipstick in 743 and Dior Rouge Forever Liquid Lipstick in 999 to create a subtle ombré effect.

5. Crystal Accents

Call it the Euphoria effect or Y2K's heavy influence on current beauty trends, but applying crystals to your eye area is the best way to add a little sparkle to your tried-and-true makeup looks. Not to mention, it's just a fun arts and crafts project.

Former emo and scene kids rejoice! The black eyeshadow and eyeliner you wore in your MySpace photos is back, and has even made its way to Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks. Versace's Fall 2022 show featured smeared matte black eyeshadow, while Zendaya wore sharp but smudgy cat eye to the Valentino Fall 2022 fashion show.
