Kate Moss's Beauty Routine Is Much More Involved Than It Used to Be
It’s been nearly three decades since a 14-year-old Kate Moss was scouted at an airport, kick-starting an iconic career in front of the camera. Now she’s channeling all that knowledge into helping steer the careers of young artists with her talent collective, Kate Moss Agency. She’s also bringing her killer eye to Decorté cosmetics as the brand’s face and creative director. Here, the supermodel shares the “little rituals” that keep her healthy and motivated today.
How has your approach to beauty and wellness evolved over the years? I take much better care of myself now. When I was younger, I didn’t need to do anything. I don’t remember using any products—your skin just moisturizes itself. Now I have a little ritual: I apply a serum mixed with moisturizer and then maybe a little eye cream. I take a moment to do it properly instead of just slapping it on.
So it’s as much about the process as the results. Yes, exactly. I’ll have a bath before bed. I do all of that now. It’s turn-off time. When [my teenage daughter] Lila has gone to bed and the house is quiet, that’s my favorite time of day. Then I can read and do my nails, just putter around. A couple of times a year I take a week and go to a spa and do a proper detox. I used to get so bored at spas, but now I love it.

You’ve said you now visit the gym more frequently too. What changed? I just wanted to feel strong in my body. As you get older, you need to make a conscious effort to keep strong. And when you do start feeling strong, you want to be stronger. It’s such a great feeling.
You’re known as one of the best-dressed women in the world. How do you dress up your face? During the day I usually wear Decorté Sheer Brilliance foundation, then I do nude lipstick and a bit more of an eye. [For going out] I like lots of mascara. I’m inspired by old pictures of Edie Sedgwick with those amazing eyes. But now I think sometimes it can look a bit fancy, unless you’re on a runway. That’s why I still love to do fashion shoots, because you get to wear makeup and become those characters.

Running Kate Moss Agency, you’re on the other side of the lens. What traits do you look for before signing someone? When I meet people, I fall in love with them. At the moment, there are only seven [talents represented by the agency]. They’re so different, but they all have strong personalities. They’re very beautiful inside and out.
How does it feel to be in a mentorship role now? It’s fun to be around young, excited people and see them grow. I like taking care of others. It’s really nice to be able to know that when I don’t want to model, I can focus on this.
How is the landscape different for them from how it was for you? They have to think about social media. We never had to do that; that’s really pressure for them. I think how their lives work, they do it naturally. It’s alien to me.
You’re a source of beauty inspiration for so many of us. Who are your icons? Julie Christie, Sharon Tate, and Elizabeth Taylor—they’re all beautiful movie stars from back in the day.
