Sure, we're technically in the fall season, but if Kerry Washington is still holding tight to her pretty pink lipsticks of summer, then damnit, so are we.

As she walked into of her taping of Good Morning America yesterday in New York City, the star's coordinating tones on her lips and cheeks caught our eyes. Monochromatic makeup has been having somewhat of a moment on the red carpet, and Washington demonstrated the perfect way to take the look on a test-drive without totally overthinking the effect. Walking the line between soft peach and intense rose, her melon lipstick served as the focal point, while her warm blush acted as a complementary backdrop.

Try out the look by first creating a sheer stain with the lip color—it will give the tone extra staying power, and give the tone more dimension than just a totally opaque finish. Apply one even layer of a peach-pink hybrid, use a tissue to blot it, then apply another layer using light dabbing motions over the top until you reach your desired intensity. If you're working with a matte formula, a tiny swipe of lip balm will give the color some slip.

Finish with a coordinating blush, and follow Washington's lead by going easy on the eyes.
