Ciara and Russell Wilson's New Fragrance Was Created on a Quarantine Date Night

Instead of learning to bake sourdough bread, cross stitch, or roller skate, Ciara and Russell Wilson entertained themselves during the coronavirus pandemic by creating a fragrance.

The husband and wife have launched R&C The Fragrance Duo: two eau de parfums inspired by their love for one another and the idea that sticking together is the key to happiness.

"We created this fragrance during one of, if not, the toughest times in life, not only for us, but the world," Ciara told a group of beauty editors during a Zoom call ahead of the the fragrance's launch. "It brought us some joy in the midst of it all."

The singer says that she and Wilson turned fragrance testing into at-home date nights, and being pregnant with her third child helped refine her nose during the testing stage.

"I could smell the fragrance all around the corner, so I think I had a bit of an advantage in the process of being able to distinguish between the different smells," she shared. "We couldn’t do date night like we normally would, so we would have our unique date nights at home, and smelling our scents were really fun and sweet process. We would do challenges with each other to see if we could remember which scent was which one we liked."

"Quarantining with two kids at the time and Ciara being pregnant, you need to find your ways to keep it sexy, keep it fun, and have a great time while doing it," Wilson added. "We were able to do that, and I think the whole process of putting this fragrance together and doing it with each other is such a special gift."

Housed in a first-of-its kind mirrored chrome bottle, the two scents (named R and C, respectively) are intertwined, thanks to an interlocking magnetic system. The design is meant to reflect the connection between the scents and the couple themselves.

As for the juice, R is described as a scent that's "effortlessly sexy with an iconic, refined freshness." It contains top notes of bergamot, abmroxan, and black tea, middle notes of lavender, pear, and waterlily, and base notes of patchouli, musk, and vetiver.

Ciara's scent is a classic oriental floral with a sensual, sultry twist. The brand says it "captures a woman’s feminine complexity with a contrast of classic with a modern twist." There are top notes of red berries, freesia, pink peppercorn, middle notes of jasmine, peony, and gardenia, and base notes of musk, sandalwood, and vanilla.

In addition on trying to make this winter's quarantine a little warm and spicy, the couple hope to give back to those in need by donating a portion of the fragrance's proceeds to their Why Not You Foundation, a non-profit that supports youth the necessary tools and resources for future success, including education and workforce development programs, children's health organizations, and food security initiatives.
