With the number of celebrity-driven beauty brands on the rise, stars are looking for more nuanced ways to stand out in the market. And making a clean line is one way to do it.

While the idea of creating all-natural and eco-friendly products sounds good and well, the truth is that not all clean brands are created equal — at least not yet. "'Clean' is not a defined or regulated term," explains Dr. Mara Weinstein, a board-certified dermatologist and consultant to LUOM Beauty. "We know the beauty industry lacks strict regulation when it comes to definitions of clean, all-natural, or organic. So the responsibility is really on the consumer to do their research in order to know what is in the products they are putting on their skin."

That said, depending on what your needs and wants are, you should use some discretion when shopping clean. But with tons of products on the market these days, it's hard to even know where to start. That's why we rounded up the top six beauty expert-approved celebrity-founded clean brands — plus some of our favorite products from each line.

Rare Beauty

Just little over a year old, Selena Gomez's clean brand Rare Beauty is blossoming beautifully. The vegan and cruelty-free makeup line offers formulas that are easy to blend and build. Rare Beauty also donates 1% of all sales to the Rare Impact Fund, which has a $100M commitment over the next 10 years to provide people with the access they need to support their mental health. The Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation is a serum-like foundation that offers medium coverage and a natural finish in 48 different shades.

Keys Soulcare

Alicia Keys empowered the no-makeup makeup look on the red carpet, helping each of us to learn that less can actually mean more. And it master the trend, it's helpful to start with healthy, moisturized skin. Keys Soulcare is a clean skin and bodycare brand co-founded by Keys that also features candles to help set your beauty ritual. Saturate your skin with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and malachite through their Skin Transformation Cream Fragrance Free with Bakuchioli. Bakuchioli is a plant derivative that is often referenced as nature's retinol, while ceramides and hyaluronic acid will lock in moisture leaving your skin soft.

Honest Beauty

OG clean brand Honest was founded by Jessica Alba in 2012 during her quest to find non-toxic, eco-friendly products suitable for her children, and the star eventually started creating beauty and skincare products we love. Out of the entire collection, the Honest Depuff + C Eye Cream is one of our faves, as it uses daisy flower extract to reduce dark circles and minimize puffiness, while peptides increase skin's elasticity and promotes firmness. Vitamin C is a great brightener and helps wake up your skin, plus with two different types of hyaluronic acid to promote hydration, expect a luminous glow.

Humanrace

Pharrell's immortal-like skin is enough to make anyone want to know his skincare routine — but the star took it one step further and created Humanrace. Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and combat hyperpigmentation with the Lotus Enzyme Exfoliator. Formulated with ingredients including vitamin B5, glycolic acid, and sacred lotus flower extract this exfoliator is known to boost collagen, shrink pores, and fight acne.

Sienna Naturals

As the queen of natural hairstyles, Issa Rae's curls always look healthy and hydrated. So it's no surprise that as of 2020, the L.A.-born beauty became co-owner and the face of Sienna Naturals, with her longtime friend Hannah Diop. If you're exhausted by brands that boast inclusion of kinky-curly coifs but don't actually work, then give the H.A.P.I Shampoo a try. This formula will cleanse your hair and scalp of product buildup without stripping your hair of its natural oils and moisture. It's dermatologist-tested for sensitive scalps, and helps revive your curl pattern while delivering nutrients to support healthy hair growth.

Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr was a real life angel for creating her clean beauty company Kora Organics in 2009. Now available in over 30 countries, Kora Organics contains cruelty-free, vegan, non-toxic products that are good for you and the environment.
