With the number of celebrity-driven beauty brands on the rise, stars are looking for more nuanced ways to stand out in the market. And making a clean line is one way to do it.

While the idea of creating all-natural and eco-friendly products sounds good and well, the truth is that not all clean brands are created equal — at least not yet. "'Clean' is not a defined or regulated term," explains Dr. Mara Weinstein, a board-certified dermatologist and consultant to LUOM Beauty. "We know the beauty industry lacks strict regulation when it comes to definitions of clean, all-natural, or organic. So the responsibility is really on the consumer to do their research in order to know what is in the products they are putting on their skin."

That said, depending on what your needs and wants are, you should use some discretion when shopping clean. But with tons of products on the market these days, it's hard to even know where to start.
