Considering how often many celebrities have to travel by airplane, one would think their skin would be looking at least a little dull and congested. After all, it’s well-documented that flying is super dehydrating and stressful for your skin; why does it make us peasants break out and not celebs? As a skincare devotée, I’ve tried tons of different products to avoid dreaded post-flight blemishes — and while I’ve found that a routine of cleansing and moisturizing before and after travel does help to protect my skin, a pimple or two would occasionally still appear on my face in the hours after my flight.

That all changed, however, when I discovered the holy grail of travel skincare: Caudalie Beauty Elixir. It’s basically a toner that I use after I cleanse and before putting on my serums, moisturizer, and sunscreen — and it makes all the difference. Once I began to add it into my travel routine, my skin began to remain as glowy as ever after flying. And, most importantly, blemish-free.

It’s no wonder celebs also tend to have beautiful skin after traveling: The product is a cult favorite amongst them, and stars like Blake Lively, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Margot Robbie, Kourtney Kardashian, Iris Law, and Victoria Beckham have all said that they use it regularly. Considering the product is only $16 on Amazon (marked down from $18!), it’s a star beauty secret that’s truly accessible to the masses.

It might not seem like a super important product to keep around when you’re traveling — surely a cleanser or moisturizer or even a facial oil would be most important to keep your skin hydrated mid-flight? — but its mix of hydrating grape extracts, clarifying ingredients, and essential oils help to tighten your pores, give you a dewy, healthy glow, and keep your skin looking plump. Also, it just smells really nice, which is important when you’re stressed from traveling.

According to Caudalie, the beauty elixir was inspired by Queen Isabelle of Hungary’s “elixir of youth” (but considering Queen Isabelle of Hungary was alive in the 1500s, it probably bears no actual resemblance to whatever she used).

While I tend to use this during my daily skincare routine — before doing my makeup and then occasionally throughout the day if my skin starts to look dull — when I’m traveling I like to use it just before and after my flight, once I’ve cleansed my skin. I avoid spritzing it mid-flight due to the fact that any hydration added to your face when you’re mid-air will actually cause your skin to get dehydrated — this is because plane cabins are so dry, and water tends to evaporate in environments like that.

Since using it during my travels, my skin has remained blemish-free, hydrated, and healthy, even after long-haul flights abroad. And I can say I use the same toner as Blake Lively, so that’s a fun bragging right.
