Billie Eilish Wore a Wig for Weeks to Hide Her New Blonde Hair

Yes, even at the Grammys.

This week, Billie Eilish shocked fans with a major hair transformation, trading in her signature jet black strands and neon green roots for a platinum shag. And the reveal was just as dramatic as the change itself. After asking her followers to "guess what color," the next day, Billie debuted her new blonde 'do with a theatrical flip of the hair.

The seemingly overnight shift from brunette to blonde had people speculating that Billie was wearing a wig to hide the recent dye job (even at the Grammy Awards), and as it turns out — they were right.

In the comments of a cheeky TikTok video of the singer lifting a green and black wig off of her head, Billie wrote, "This was in my drafts LOL my hair has blonde for like two months." Her hairstylist Lissa Renn also confirmed the disguise in a time-lapse video that's since been deleted, demonstrating how they achieved the buttery blonde shade.

"The process is real when you're doing it right. 6 weeks to get all the black out of her ends without damaging it, along with her following my strict hair care regime. We actually loved all the stages of lifting the color too but the end result is [fire emojis]," Renn said, according to Vanity Fair.

That means Billie began lightening her hair in early February, and fooled everyone the entire time. However, to be fair, she did warn us ahead of the release of her documentary, The World's a Little Blurry, in December.

"I'm changing [my hair] after the doc comes out," she previously stated. "It will be the end of an era. I'm going to give you a new era."
