When my quartz facial roller fell onto the floor and cracked in half last month, I cried for a full five minutes. Emotions are definitely high these days, and I won’t apologize for how I felt. Even if this had happened during a time where people’s vocabularies didn’t consist of just the words “unprecedented” and “uncertain,” I think I still would have cried.

My quartz facial roller was one of my favorite skincare tools to use. Unlike the NuFace, which looks like a mini robot and which both Jennifer Aniston and I swear by, quartz facial rollers are unintimidating. They’re pretty! They’re pink! They’re something you actually want to leave sitting out on your bathroom sink. And celebrities love them too. Meghan Markle, Victoria Beckham, and Kim Kardashian West each own one. According to Into The Gloss, every single person’s top shelf features one.

Aside from aesthetics, the appeal is obvious. Sure, they’re beautiful, but they’re also incredibly easy to use. All you have to do is apply some oil onto your skin and move the roller in outward-facing motions along your cheekbones and jawline. Aside from providing instant relaxation, this helps reduce puffiness and smooth wrinkles. It also contours your cheeks because the movement promotes lymphatic drainage.

Like most good things, especially when beauty is involved, quartz rollers aren’t cheap. But right as I pledged to hold off buying a replacement, Nordstrom decided to go ahead and put the Beautybio Rose Quartz Facial Roller & Oil Set on sale.

Maybe now is truly the time to move on from my old quartz facial roller (RIP) and welcome a new, young, pretty thing into my life again. Quartz facial rollers won’t change what’s going on in the world, but they can at least provide a one-step facial from home. I’d just recommend not dropping yours to avoid a subconscious release of pent-up emotions.
