My hair and I have been on quite the journey over the last 27 years. We’ve seen our fair share of bad haircuts and dye jobs that did too much damage. And while thickness was always the goal, I don’t like to do too much with my hair. I’ve stopped using heat styling tools like blow dryers completely and am very wary of “thickening” products because of how easily my thin hair can get greasy and weighed down.

I had just about given up on everything that could possibly give my hair a boost, until one day I learned about Sarah Jessica Parker’s $25 secret to ultra voluminous locks. Parker is hair goals through and through — I mean, have you seen those waves — so if she recommends a hair product, I am very willing to give it a try (even though I am cautious about what I spray on my roots).

The SJP-approved buy that landed on my beauty shelf? Serge Normant’s Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray. “This is a must,” Parker once shared with PEOPLE. “It works for so many people. Use it instead of dry shampoo or hairspray to give your hair more body."

I really had never been so eager to open a package as the one my new Serge Normant spray arrived in. Right out of the box, I gave it a spray and immediately loved the way it felt on my hair. It was lightweight, but I could feel the texture it gave my fine strands. I really put it to the test the next morning, and to no surprise, I fell even more in love.

After my hair completely dried from my A.M. shower, I spritzed the Serge Normant spray, section by section, onto my roots, zhuzh-ing every now and then to ensure even application throughout. Most hair sprays leave my strands tacky, hard, and greasy-looking, but not this one. It boasts a lightweight, strengthening formula that’s dry and clear when applied, and it gives my fine strands grit without making them crisp. (Because we’ve all had spray in our hair that we can’t comb through.) Bonus: The spray is free of harsh parabens and mineral oils and is also cruelty-free.

After application, my fine, thin hair looked thicker than it ever has. It had body! It had volume! It had texture! It looked sexy and tousled! Those are some adjectives I never thought I would be able to use to describe my hair, but alas, this spray made it possible.

I’m not the only one who’s had this experience with the Parker-approved spray. Amazon shoppers who’ve mentioned their hair is on the thinner side, too, have also had quite uplifting results (pun intended).

“I have fine, thin hair, so imagine my surprise when a spray gave me a HUGE head of hair. Not to be taken lightly, this stuff is incredible! It takes hair to new heights — literally,” wrote one customer.

Just like SJP said, some customers also mentioned it’s a great alternative to dry shampoo. “Works well, no white marks, no bad odor. I often use this before bed, and shake out next morning with nice fresh hair.”

For major volume and body like never before (trust me!), consider scooping up this $25 haircare secret that’s SJP- and editor-approved.
