7 Beauty Products Model Imaan Hammam Can't Live Without
The model and Revlon brand ambassador waxes poetic on the evolution of her signature curls and the beauty staples she can't live without...
When I was growing up my hair... Was easy — when my mom used to do it. She would braid it and brush it out. She wore her hair in a giant Afro, and it was so beautiful to see that. It gave me the confidence to just wear mine as it is.
When I started modeling... My hair was always straightened for shoots and shows. I think that’s because [some hairstylists] didn’t know what to do with it. It really damaged my hair. I got so tired of it that one day during the shows, I walked in [backstage] with my hair natural. Everyone was like, “Oh my god, it’s amazing.” From then on, I’ve always worn it this way.
Modeling with my curls on full display... Gives me confidence. I love to see what stylists can do, but wearing it natural is still my favorite because it’s just me. And it’s so much easier than sitting in a chair and getting it blow-dried and straightened.
My ultimate hair goal is... Hydration. I try not to wash it with shampoo — just conditioner, and I actually leave it in for a day or two before rinsing so my hair stays moist. I use a lot of oils, like argan, and every two weeks I get a hydrating treatment at a salon.

The most drastic thing I would do to my hair is... Get a really fun, short cut. I think in a couple of years I want to donate my hair to a charity that makes wigs for people who are sick. I think that’s really beautiful. But I’d never dye my hair again. It’s so damaging. If I’m at a beach, my hair gets a bit lighter from the sun.
My hair icons are... My mom, definitely; I love how Erykah Badu wears her hair these days, and Tracee Ellis Ross — she rocks her hair natural and big.
My makeup essential is... Revlon Volumazing mascara. It's my go-to because I love big, full lashes. The brush is so perfect, and [the formula] never clumps or flakes.
The beauty product I always keep in my bag is... cuticle oil. With this weather [in N.Y.C.] my hands get super dry, so I love to put a little oil on.
