I’ve Been Wearing This Celeb-Loved Facial Sunscreen for 4 Months Now — and I’m Never Going Back
It’s not often that a skincare product — especially a sunscreen — has a following made up of celebrities, editors, dermatologists, and Amazon reviewers, but this little “game-changer” has achieved just that.
EltaMD’s UV Clear Facial Broad Spectrum SPF 46 Sunscreen has developed an impressive number of fans, earning over 2,900 five-star reviews on Amazon as well as the approval of dermatologists and several A-listers. Drew Barrymore, Kourtney Kardashian, Zac Efron, Kendall Jenner, Mindy Kaling, and Camila Cabello are just a few of its most famous users, the brand tells InStyle. And after exclusively wearing the anti-aging mineral sunscreen every day for over three months, I understand why it’s achieved a cult-like fan base.

The facial sunscreen, which is both Amazon’s best-selling facial sunscreen and best-selling facial moisturizer, comes with skin benefits that go way beyond sun protection. It not only guards against burn- and cancer-causing UVA and UVB rays, it also shields your skin from aging and damage caused by free radicals from ultraviolet (UV) rays and infrared radiation.
The fragrance- and oil-free sunscreen also doubles as an incredible moisturizer. Its antioxidant-packed formula contains moisturizing niacinamides and hyaluronic acid, leaving skin looking and feeling healthy and dewy. Its gentle and lightweight formula is even tolerated well by those with acne-prone skin (me!), rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and eczema (also me).
Prior to discovering this gem that reviewers call the “holy grail” of skincare, I was a daily (but resentful) sunscreen wearer. I slathered my face with SPF every morning before applying makeup, hoping it would prevent premature aging. But with every application, I felt annoyed by the long drying times, greasy feel, and paste-y white residue left behind on my face, which is common with zinc-based sunscreens. I also detested the thicker lotions I usually opted for at the beach, which often stung around my eyes, caused breakouts, and made my already pale skin look even more ghostly.
When I tried the EltaMD sunscreen for the first time, my expectations were low. My hope was to finally find something I could wear to the park or beach that wouldn’t clog my pores, and to my surprise, this little wonder delivered on that — and much more.
The lightweight lotion dried fast and clear, and after just a week of use, my skin looked clearer and dewier. I loved my new glow so much that I now opt to wear the moisturizer every single day — even when I’m not planning to leave the house. While I was hoping to find a product that wouldn’t add to current skin woes, I miraculously found one that actually improved my complexion.
And I’m not the only one. The review section is filled with feedback from users with all kinds of skin issues that love it. And women of various shades appreciate its fast-absorbing formula, which beautifully blends into the skin.
“I am a brown-skinned black woman and this facial sunscreen is a godsend,” one reviewer wrote. “It’s so hard for women with brown skin to find a sunscreen that won’t leave a whitecast or turn us gray! And the tinted ones are never our color tint. Along with my particular skin issues I thought I’d never find a good sunscreen, but this product is the answer. Now that I’ve used it for a few months I can see that it does improve the quality of my skin and it seems to be reducing my blemishes too. This will now be a regular staple in my skincare regime.”
Now that I’m working at home, I’ve switched over to the brand’s tinted formula, which I can wear in lieu of makeup since it provides a bit of coverage for my acne scars and dark undereye circles. And since it dries fast and feels like nothing, I’m happy to quickly throw some on before I head out for a quick morning jog or Starbucks run. I also swear by the brand’s Barrier Renewal Complex for healing my facial eczema and the Foaming Facial Cleanser, which is the most gentle but effective face wash I’ve ever used on my blemish-prone skin.
The brand is sold at Dermstore, Walmart, and Amazon, where you can subscribe and save. If you join its massive fan club (and trust me, you will), you’re going to go through bottle after bottle, so take my advice and sign up to ensure your next one is always on the way.
See what else I swear by.
