How to Get Salon-Quality Brows at Home, According to Experts

If this morning’s reflection looked like a Mia Thermopolis “before” picture in the brow region, coronavirus says hi. Self-isolating has collectively pushed us indoors and out of reach of the beauty professionals we depend on for everything from our nails to our roots to, yes, our unruly eyebrows.

Since there’s no telling just how long this new normal will keep up, it’s high time for us to take matters into our own hands. We reached out to experts Jimena Garcia, Chanel’s first-ever brow artist, and Santiago Garay, owner and artistic director of Brow Society NYC, for their recommendations on the best products for at-home brow maintenance.

Turns out, keeping up flawless brows is actually simple once you have the right tools. See their recommendations below, and say hello to independently realized perfect brows in no time.

This box set may look intimidating, but salon professionals swear by it. “For first timers, when using at home, it’s best to use the light brown,” says Garcia. “This color tints well, and [that] prevents going too dark and looking like Groucho Marx.”

Best Brow Trimmer: Tweezerman Brow Shaping Scissors and Brush

Both experts agree on this one brand for brow-grooming trimmers. Garcia says, “The small and fine tip gives you the ability to be precise and not over-trim. It’s all about less, not more, when maintaining at home.”

Garay calls the scissors “very durable ” and adds a pro tip: “Brush the brows down first and snip only the ends of the brow hairs, then comb up and repeat. Avoid over-trimming!”

Best Tweezers: Tweezerman Slant Tweezer

Garcia and Garay also agree that Tweezerman makes the best tweezers for plucking brow hairs. “I love these tweezers because the slant creates a glided grip to each hair, it holds firmly on each hair to pull from the root,” says Garcia.

“Top-rated and sharp enough to pull any stray hairs from the root,” adds Garay. “A 25-degree slanted tip is the perfect angle for working against the brow bone.”

You have to be consistent, put it next to your toothbrush and apply it every night before bed time until the tube runs out.”

A versatile tool to keep in your brow wardrobe is this dual-ended brush. “One side has a sturdy spooley and the other has an angled edge brush to apply all types of brow products,” says Garcia. “You can use it to trim your brows or brush over after you apply your brow serum — this allows the product to be evenly spread and creates circulation for brow growth.”

If a quick color hold-over is all you need, this swipe-and-done gel might be just the thing. “Great product to tie your brows over before getting them professionally tinted by an expert,” says Garay. “Comb a thin layer into brow hairs following the direction of the hair growth.”
