Kirsten Dunst Wore a Ruffled Strapless Gown At the 2022 Oscars
It's hard to believe that this year marks the first time, ever, that Kirsten Dunst has been up for an Academy Award, especially with an IMDb page that includes movies like Marie Antoinette, Interview With the Vampire, and Melancholia. She's up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Power of the Dog alongside fellow nominees Benedict Cumberbatch, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Jesse Plemons, her husband.
The two arrived at the Dolby Theater looking every bit the Hollywood golden couple, with Dunst wearing a deep fuchsia Christian Lacroix silk-and-tulle ruffled strapless gown with an embellished neckline. Her blonde hair was pulled into an upside chignon bun with face-framing strands. She kept her accessories minimal, only wearing Fred Leighton baguette diamond drop earrings and Roger Vivier shoes that matched the carpet.
Plemons went for a monochromatic suit moment wearing a black tuxedo and a matching button-up.
Back in 2019, Dunst appeared on SirusXM's In-Depth with Larry Flick and mentioned that "it would be nice" to be recognized by her peers. "What did I do?" she asked.
"When I met her as a kid, she was this kind of blonde, bubbly, all-American teenager, but then had this depth and more to her behind her eyes," director Sofia Coppola told the New Yorker last fall. "She has a contrast — she's not what you expect."
Critics agreed, with Kyle Buchanan at the New York Times saying, "After years of being called upon to project blond, sunny sweetness, Kirsten Dunst has somehow become one of our foremost chroniclers of finely etched despair."
Nobody knows whether or not Dunst will take home a trophy just yet, but with unforgettable roles in movies like Bring It On and Little Women, she can be sure that fans will keep watching, no matter what.
