Ariana DeBose Wore Multiple Massive Diamonds to the 2022 Oscars and Her Necklace Included a Special Message
It can be argued that no one had a better 2022 Oscars night than Ariana DeBose. She arrived on the red carpet in a jaw-dropping, layered pants look from Valentino, and later, took home a history-making Oscar for her role in West Side Story. Still, we can't talk about the evening without mentioning her many De Beers diamond accessories, which included a necklace and drop earrings that came with a special message.
The pieces — which were 41.29 carats and 4.21 carats, respectively — had the term "drops of light" in their names, something that felt appropriate for such a monumental night.
"As Ariana's Academy Awards look is so unique and individual, we needed jewelry that was going to stand apart as well," one of the star's stylists, Zadrian Smith, explained to InStyle via email. "We chose stunning natural diamonds from De Beers, who had pieces that measured up to the magnitude of this moment."
Smith's styling partner, Sarah Edmiston, added that the name really seemed to represent DeBose in general.
"When we found out that the earrings and necklace she's wearing were named Drops of Light, it felt serendipitous," she said. "Ariana is such a light, illuminating the spaces around her."
The actress, it seems, felt similarly about the accessories, telling InStyle that they were perfect for the big event.
"Oscars night was spectacular in every way!" she told us in a statement. "When we chose the jewelry to wear for the big night, I put on the diamond necklaces from De Beers and the pieces immediately evoked light and music from within. Each one really spoke to me for this moment, and it was the perfect way to celebrate this incredible evening. And I know De Beers is committed to sustainability, which is a win for me."
Of course, the necklace — which included diamonds that graduated in size — and the elegant earrings weren't the only shiny, sparkling extras that completed DeBose's look. They were layered and paired with other jewels from De Beers, including a 41.29-carat necklace and a 9.5-carat ring, and were swapped out for even more designs from the brand after she changed into an LBD for Vanity Fair's Oscars after-party (We were there, too!).
