The 2021 Grammy Awards may have been smaller and more intimate than it's been in the past, but even though the event was socially distant and partially virtual doesn't mean that celebrities held back when it came to fashion. Cynthia Erivo, for instance, who has already had some winning red carpet looks in recent weeks, pulled out all the stops, striking a pose in a shiny, sequined gown that definitely deserves a closer look.

Styled by Jason Bolden, Erivo looked as glamorous as ever in a metallic Louis Vuitton design, which featured a capelet top with matching belt as well as a revealing cutout. But, something you couldn't see from the gorgeous photos alone? All the work that went into embroidering this specific dress — which took more than 140 hours to complete and included over 60,000 triangular sequins, glass beads (two different sizes), and pear- and marquis-cut crystals.

Luckily, Louis Vuitton gave InStyle an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how Erivo's dress was made, so that we could fully appreciate all those elaborate details. According to the brand, each panel was originally embroidered with sequins separately prior to being assembled, then re-embroidered to create a more uniform effect.

So, before we move on to the next big awards show (the Oscars are coming up!), it's time to appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this seriously stunning work of art.
