The New Miss Universe Is France's Iris Mittenaere
On Sunday night, pageant stars from 86 different countries vied for the crown and the title of Miss Universe 2016. The women showed off their brains and beauty throughout the course of three days with preliminary interviews before strutting their stuff in a live broadcast from the Philippines with a swimsuit competition, an evening gown display, and then a final question and outfit.
While Miss Haiti and Miss Columbia (the first and second runners-up) certainly made an impression on the judges, it was Miss France Iris Mittenaere who walked away with the ultimate prize.
The 24-year-old dental surgery student, who dazzled in a gold sparkly gown, proved that she's definitely the whole package and won over the competition by beating out 11 other finalists for the top spot.
Flo Rida and Boyz II Men performed at the annual beauty pageant, which featured 12 finalists instead of last year's 13 and took votes from the Miss Universe app and Twitter page into account for the first time.
As for Mittenaere, who was crowned by last year's winner Miss Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines, the student says she hopes to promote global access to dental and oral care.
Congratulations to the new Miss Universe! Watch her crowning moment in the video above.
