Mandy Moore NYFW Diary - LEAD
Photo: Rebecca Smeyne

This Is Usstar Mandy Moore is no rookie to New York Fashion Week—but that's just what happens when you're a multi-hyphenate singer-songwriter-actress from the golden age of early millennial Teen Dream Supremes (A Walk to Remember, anyone?). So, yeah, you could call her a pro.

This season, Moore took InStyle along for the ride and let us in on how she got ready for some of the most anticipated shows of the season (that's Marchesa and Marc Jacobs to be exact). And we happened to score exclusive photos of everything, from getting glammed up by her beauty team (let us introduce Jenn and Ashley Streicher from the Beverly Hills beauty studio STRIIIKE—third sister Kristie does Moore's eyebrows, P.S.) to getting dressed up in only the chicest of chic outfits by stylist Erica Cloud.

THE MARCHESA LOOK

THE MARCHESA LOOK
Rebecca Smeyne

"Considering that this show was in the evening in the middle of winter, wearing a gorgeous Marchesa cocktail dress felt a bit much. Our solution was to dress down a fancy separates piece (in this case, a gorgeous black lace and tulle blouse) with jeans and heels. Ashley had the idea to implement a sculptural Jennifer Behr headband into the look and with the addition of some jet-black chandelier earrings, we were set to roll." — Mandy Moore

BUT FIRST, GLAM TIME

BUT FIRST, GLAM TIME

"I really loved the Marchesa look. I am so into the Jennifer Behr headband and really wanted that to be the main focus of the beauty look. So I went very clean and soft for the makeup. Since her hair was pulled back and off her face I focused on the skin being flawless and dewy. I used a Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pops eyeshadow stick in Stardust and a nude lipstick by Laura Mercier in Peche." — Jenn Streicher, makeup artist

"I wanted to modernize the romance of the lace blouse (the sleeve were like petals) with the addition of the everyday idea of blue jeans and show a different take on a fancy top." — Erica Cloud, Stylist

THE FLOWER CROWNING

THE FLOWER CROWNING

"Mandy had gone to the Lela Rose show two days before and fell in love with these certain Jennifer Behr silhouette headbands that she made exclusively for Lela. I also love pretty much everything JB makes and we were able to get our hands on one of these very special pieces. We knew that it would fit perfectly into the Marchesa look, It was a more dressed down, cool, casual look for the show, so dressing it up a bit with the headband was the perfect move. She wore it similarly to how they were shown on the runway with all the hair off of her face." — Ashley Streicher, hairstylist

THE PERFECT HEELS

"I decided to cut a pair of Wolford lace tights into slouchy socks as a nod to past Marchesa collections and a tie-in to balance the top. I completed the look with the classic Kurt Geiger shoes that go perfectly with any outfit." — Erica Cloud, stylist

THE MARC JACOBS LOOK

"I'm usually not a big fan of short dresses but slapping on a pair of black tights and Marc's sky-high platforms got me over my fear of tiny hemlines. Ash had the idea to incorporate these incredible pearl accented barrettes and Jenn's blue and gold eye shadow really made the whole look pop." — Mandy Moore

"We decided the look was very doll-like and committed to that direction with slight Valley of the Dolls influence as well." — Erica Cloud, stylist

THE MANE

THE MANE
Rebecca Smeyne

"For Marc Jacobs I was inspired by the silhouette of the dress and the baby doll shape, also I love that the dress was adorned with brightly colored pills. I knew that I wanted her hair to be soft but embellished with pearls to play off the dollish, baby doll look. I again turned to my friend Jennifer Behr, she makes a set of 5 simple pearl hair bobbies that I placed just on one side of Mandy's hair to keep it back behind her ear. I thought that the placement of the floating pearls made it look more interesting." — Ashley Streicher, hairstylist

"The Marc Jacobs look was all about fun. I was really inspired by the colors in the dress. I played with a lot of color to match the playfulness of the dress and I just love the beautiful blue I choose for her lids." — Jenn Streicher, makeup artist

"Wolford tights with the open toe Marc Jacobs platforms and a perfect swan and pearl ring by Swarovski that matched the pretty pearl pins Ashley used in her hair. A fun, hot pink, lucite, paillette clutch by Jimmy Choo completes the look!" — Erica Cloud, stylist
