"Designers' Firsts" is a series where seasoned designers recall their first major milestones in their careers (read Thakoon Panichgul's here). Next up: Josep Font, who will show his Delpozo fall 2017 collection at 11 a.m. ET on Feb. 15 during New York Fashion Week.

The first time I knew I wanted to be a designer: When I was young, I would accompany my mother to the boutiques in Barcelona and she always asked for my opinion. I think that made me want to become a designer.

My first sketch was of: Doll figurines—I always drew when I was in school.

The first thing I ever designed was: A below-the-knee brown and print dress—half of it was pleated, and it was the one I won my first award.

My first mentor was: Pedro Rodriguez.

My first show at NYFW was in: February 2013. This season marks my tenth collection!

The first model I cast was: Kristen Owen.

The first celebrity to ever wear my designs: At Delpozo—Cate Blanchett.

The first time I knew I made it: When I was honored to be invited by the Chambre Syndicale to show during Couture. It’s the highest accolade any designer can aspire to. It was an amazing experience and training.

The first lesson I learned the hard way: Ironically, my first interview.

The first thing I ever Instagrammed was: A picture from Madrid. I had just moved to the city due to my appointment at Delpozo.
