At Chanel, Brides Wear Pants
If the Couture Council announced that only one designer could show during Couture week, that designer would have to be Chanel. Chanel is the MVP of Couture, always presenting the most elaborate bride, always using the most exciting of materials. If we could be a fly on the wall of that atelier…
Here, takeaways from today’s Spring Summer 2018 Couture show.
What does the word “garden” mean to you? To me, it evokes memories of pulling weeds out of my yard and running away from bees. Karl Lagerfeld’s garden, the setting for today’s Couture show, has no weeds. Your rackety front deck is replaced with perfectly manicured fountains and the sound of your screaming next door neighbors is muffled by the delightfully chirping birds.
If you didn’t know, pink is the new black. At the SAG Awards earlier this week, we saw our favorite celebrities dressed in shades of pink fit for fairytale princesses and the most empowered of women, alike. It’s no surprise Lagerfeld knew this was going to be a “thing.” Thirty-six of the 68 looks from the show were pink, our favorite being the cupcake masterpiece that was Kaia Gerber’s look.
Hudson. Is. Still. Here. Lagerfeld’s godson (son of Chanel model Brad Kroenig) once again walked the runway, this time as a flower child, accompanying the couture bride as she walked the runway. He looked cute as a button in white distressed pants and a peter pan collared top. We just have one question for Hudson: what anti-aging cream you be using?
I love when a designer walks an unconventional bride down the couture runway, and Lagerfeld is always one to surprise. This season’s bride was fluffy and feathery (like Dior’s), but refreshingly wore a white tux, vest and all, causing 2018 brides everywhere to call Kleinfeld and be like, “Randy, do you have pants?”
