The 39 Most Naked Dresses of All Time

Naked dresses are perhaps the most impressive of all red carpet feats. While they may not always make the best-dressed list, they do require a certain breed of celebrity to pull off. Not only do you have to have the balls to risk a wardrobe malfunction, but you have to do it with enough confidence that you look fierce — not terrified — in the photographs. Take Naomi Campbell's appearance in Valentino's couture show during the spring/summer 2019 presentation. The legendary model gracefully strutted down the runway in a see-through gown with a ruffle skirt. (Click through the gallery for the NSFW photo).  Get the inside scoop on all your favorite celebrities with our FREE daily newsletter, InStyle Celebrity. Breaking news, relationship updates, hairstyle inspo, fashion trends, and more direct to your inbox! Let's not forget Rihanna’s infamous CFDA dress either. The girl rocked a completely sheer dress without a bra — and later remarked that her only regret was not wearing a bedazzled thong to match. That, my friends, is dedication. Then, there was the year 2015, when the Met Gala saw not one nor two but three naked dresses on the red carpet, all worn by Hollywood’s hottest A-listers. Jennifer Lopez, above, bared her famous curves in a custom Atelier Versace illusion gown. Beyoncé was nearly naked in Givenchy. And Kim Kardashian West almost looked modest in comparison in her sheer Roberto Cavalli dress, because no one’s getting naked without KKW joining in. Click through to see the best naked dresses of all time.

But there will be a few tweaks. As seen on Kerry Washington, 2020's bob has textured, softer edges, and looks amazing whether you part it down the middle or off to the side.  RELATED: The 10 Hairstyles You'll See Everywhere This Winter But if you swear that 2020 is going to be the year you finally grow out your hair, let Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian's extra-long lengths be your inspiration. Virtual Fashion Week Didn't Stop These 20 Style Icons From Wearing Their Best Outfits

Out of all the things we miss about life before the pandemic, getting dressed-dressed falls somewhere in our top five. Remember commuting to work in non-stretchy pants? Taking risks with cutouts and deep-V necklines? Slipping on a pair of heels (then ultimately slipping them off an hour later, because, ouch)? Sigh. Those were the days — but, we're confident they'll be back.

Until then, we can daydream about our future wardrobes by looking at all the fun designs coming down the (mostly virtual) Fall 2021 runways at New York Fashion Week. And, if you're missing the usual street style, full of sparkle, puff-sleeves, and tons of accessories, we've got that covered, too.

RELATED: Ella Emhoff Made Her New York Fashion Week Debut

For years, InStyle has featured the hottest looks we've spotted outside of fashion shows, and have dedicated our street style galleries to plus-size women, who have historically been ignored by photographers (trust us — we browse through pictures every day, and it's impossible not to notice the same four women over and over again). Since we still aren't able to push through a crowd and get that award-worthy, casually-cool shot, we reached out to those who've posed for us in past, asking them to send along photos of what they would have worn to Fashion Week under different, safer, in-person circumstances.

And, of course, they really delivered.

Check out the fabulous 'street style' outfit photos sent in by our favorite fashion pros and influencers, along with a bit about why they chose them.

About the Outfit: "I feel like you can't go wrong with a monochromatic look. It's such a great way to keep things chic, yet stand out if you're wearing a brighter color. Choosing pieces within the same shade range, but different textures, helps keep things interesting, and that's what I love about this outfit. The top is the Prologue line at Target, with Zara pants, an H&M trench coat, a Telfar bag, Cotton-On sunglasses, and NastyGal boots."

About the Outfit: "Orange is still the new black, right? I’ve recently been obsessed with orange and blending nudes and neutrals. I also love a good suit, especially for NYFW — it’s always a 'Do.' For this look, I wanted to play on the power suit with a hint of sexy. These days, I don’t go anywhere without a Telfar bag, my collection of every color is almost complete. I paired this look with white boots and a subtle yet statement earring."

About the Outfit: "Since it's 'winter' in Los Angeles, I'm taking full advantage with a long-sleeved, oversized dress cinched with a bum bag, and some black sock-boots. It's fun to dress with a little bit of edge in Los Angeles when most folks are in more casual wear. Look is head-to-toe ASOS."

About the Outfit: "“NYFW is the ultimate source of inspiration, not only the shows themselves, but even more so from the attendees. I’m usually the first to opt for drama and glamour, but recently my style has a bit more ease to it with a higher focus on personal comfort, color, and texture. The dress was not my typical choice, but I loved the geometric pattern in some of my favorite winter colors, then the puffer and boots just tied it all together. Makes me hopeful we can celebrate fashion together again soon."

About the Outfit: "I chose this outfit because it makes me feel like I'm floating on a cloud. It's fun, it's bold, but I could also nap in it. Wray consistently makes garments that feel effortlessly COOL on your body."

About the Outfit: "It’s color, it’s printed, it’s short, and it’s still fashion for plus-size bodies! If I were going to Fashion Week this year, I’d wear this outfit to inspire plus-size fashionistas to dress for THEM! The prints, short lengths and fun colors, they’re for EVERYONE! "

About the Outfit: "To celebrate another fashion month I wanted to be bold and 'dress my statement' with this glam oversized hoodie moment from my new size-inclusive merch line @confidenceactivist! I, of course, could not pass up a leopard on leopard moment with these Fashion to Figure plus-size boots and accessories to match. Don't forget, style has no size!"

About the Outfit: "In a sea of black, always be the rainbow. My daughter and I wore the dreamiest Selkie dresses to the Rebecca Minkoff presentation for an unexpected pop of color on an unseasonably warm day. We ditched our coats and twirled through the streets of NYC. It was one of my proudest moments as a mama to represent age and size diversity at Fashion Week."

About the Outfit: "Even though I miss NYFW shows IRL, I still love combining trends I’m feeling each season. The contrast of the puff-sleeve blouse and bustier combo with these high shine pants felt just right. I wore it with my favorite longline plaid car coat from Cynthia Vincent’s Baacal, but I just had to get a shot without to show off these billowy sleeves."

About the Outfit: "Fashion is about having fun for me and this look embodies that with the mixing of color, patterns and texture. Black and white always looks so clean and modern, adding in the pop of color really helped to bring the whole look together."

About the Outfit: "As another virtual fashion week comes around, I’m finding myself gravitating towards pieces that charm, inspire, and remind me of why I fell in wonder-love with fashion in the first place. I’m wearing a blue dress by Saks Potts that reminds me of a gymnastics leotard I wore as a kid. It’s paired under a crystal-embellished tapestry top by emerging designer Xaivery Bonnett, who uses dead stock to construct armor for women. The look is topped off with a wonderfully whimsical necklace by Ian Charms, a sweet blue bag by For the Ages, and Gucci shoes to keep me on my toes. And my makeup is by Kayla Hamilton."

About the Outfit: "This plaided Box jacket with pearl details is definitely a must-have piece. I paired it with a long swather and tulle skirt, which added a soft tone to the whole look. The crystal chain handbag is super trendy and unique — it matched perfectly with my burgundy, crystal-buckled Mary Jane shoes"

About the Outfit: "I decided to play with different textures to create this look; the organza, satin, and leather combination in this outfit adds a bit of intrigue and edge. It was important that I utilized layers because of the cool temps in NYC, but still show the distinct elements of each piece. I also am obsessed with chocolate brown clothes at the moment and really wanted to highlight how great it looks on people of darker skin tones!"

About the Outfit: "My favorite trend for Spring 2021 is the bright springy pallet. Limes, yellows, pinks, and oranges feel optimistic and resilient. If I were at NYFW I would wear a lime green suit consisting of an oversized jacket with a pink sweater underneath. I tend to wear at least one vintage item per outfit. In this case, my 70s loafers."

About the Outfit: "NYFW is all about being bold with your outfits! Not everyone can pull off a tuxedo in green full geo patterned sequins with sneakers look. The bigger you are, the harder it becomes if you are not comfortable in your skin. All of my suits and tuxes are daring and over-the-top because I’m not of afraid my body size. In order to be #irreplaceable you just have to be different. You won’t please everyone. So today might not be your day. I'm sorry in advance."

About the Outfit: "Grunge is always in the air for me. This soft-grunge look was inspired by the grey wintery weather, beautifully mixing comfortable neutrals with harsh and heavy blacks. That's kinda been my mood lately so it's definitely something that I would have worn to Fashion Week."
