On This Is Us, an episode rarely goes by without a grand romantic gesture—and in recent weeks, Justin Hartley's character has been the king of them. When we first met Kevin Pearson, he was a bit of a playboy (albeit a good-hearted one). But as soon as he found himself in the middle of a convoluted love triangle with two women, it suddenly dawned on Kevin who he wanted by his side forever. And that’s when we got our first glimpse at the hopeless romantic that he truly is.

As soon as Kevin realized that he’s still in love with his childhood sweetheart turned ex-wife, Sophie (played by Alexandra Breckenridge), he knew that he had to do something big to win her back. So after soliciting advice from another over-the-top romanctic, Toby (Chris Sullivan), Kevin showed up on Sophie’s New York City doorstep and asked her to consider a reconciliation. He begged her to meet him at their go-to spot, a diner booth where they had their first kiss in the eighth grade. And because he's undeniably charming, she did.

While the jury is still out on whether or not these two are in it for the long haul, Kevin’s actions have paid off so far. Sophie agreed to date him again, and the pair got hot and heavy in last week’s episode. But immediately after telling Sophie that he’s “not messing things up” with her again, Kevin was offered a major acting gig in L.A. Will they try long-distance, or will Kevin put Sophie before his career this time around? That remains TBD, but Hartley certainly hopes that his character finds a way to make the relationship work. “I’m rooting for ‘em,” he told InStyle during a recent visit to our offices. “He needs to win back Sophie’s trust and prove himself to her all over again, but I think he’s willing to do that and put in the time and effort.”

Whether or not Kevin ultimately wins Sophie back, we love watching him declare his feelings for her in grandiose ways—and Hartley does, too. So during our time with the star, it was only fitting that we asked him to rank the all-time greatest romantic gestures after spilling on the most romantic thing he’s ever done IRL. Press play on the video above to find out which magical moments won over his heart, and tune in for the season finale of This Is Us tonight at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
