To hear manicurist Gina Edwards tell it, you can go for the gold without going for the gold. By working with a cool-toned base, she created a subtle take on your typical metallic mani.

To get the look, start with clear base coat. Next, follow up with two coats of Dermelect nail polish in "Right As Reign" ($14; dermelect.com).

Once the layer has dried, pick up the striper brush from Kiss Nail Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit ($10; target.com) and dip it into Deborah Lippmann nail polish in "Fade To Black" ($18; nordstrom.com). Create a thin stripe down the center of the nail.

Then, grab the dotting tool from the same kit, and add three dots—using the same shade of polish—along the line you just created. While the polish is still tacky, pop a gold accent (available in the kit) over each dot.

Allow your work to dry, and you've got yourself some grade-A finger jewelry.
