Melanie Griffith is likely proud of her daughter, Fifty Shades Freed star Dakota Johnson, for many reasons, but she’s particularly impressed by her red carpet savvy. The iconic actress stopped by this week’s episode of Dirty Laundry with InStyle Editor-in-Chief Laura Brown, where she discussed some of her favorite pieces of clothing and accessories.
“I wore this to the Venice Film Festival in 1999 when it was the premiere of Crazy in Alabama, this movie that Antonio [Banderas] had directed me in. And Donatella Versace very kindly made this for me, so it’s one-of-a-kind, and I just love it,” Griffith said of the unique, fishnet Versace dress. “I mean, it’s old now, but it’s a good dress.”
The Working Girl star says the red carpet is very different nowadays than when she was a rising actress. “When I go on the red carpet with my daughter, she’s so good,” she said of Johnson’s poses.
“I was like looking at her thinking, ‘I never did that. I just smiled and looked at the camera.’”
