Julianne Moore was walking on air when she heard the news that she was nominated for an Oscar—literally. Instead of being glued to her television set patiently waiting to hear the nominees, the actress was actually many thousands of feet above ground, in a plane en route from New York to Los Angeles when the 2015 Academy Award nominations were announced.
"I was on a plane because I live in New York. And I got up at 5 to leave the house at 6 to get to the airport at 7 to be on the 8 o'clock flight," the actress told InStyle at Thursday night's Critics' Choice Awards. "So sitting there, and I thought, what the heck. I'm just going to spring for the internet." And it's a good thing she did. The actress was nominated for the actress in a leading role trophy for Still Alice.
"On my iMessage thing, the first thing I heard from was my friend, Bruce Cohen. I first met him when we were in eighth grade, so it was kind of crazy. We both were in the drama club together," she said of finally hearing about the nom, which is the actress's fourth. "So it was nice that somebody I went to the drama club with when I was 14 was the person to tell me about my Oscar nomination."
