Demi Lovato was one of five stars who took the stage to pay tribute to Lionel Richie Monday night at the Grammy Awards, but the “Confident” singer stole the show. Lovato performed Richie’s hit “Hello,” and stunned the world with her incredible vocals. Richie himself was overwhelmed with emotion during the performance, mouthing “yes” and nodding along incredulously.
Another star who was moved by Lovato’s performance was her boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. The actor took to Instagram to post a photo of his girl onstage. “Watching @ddlovato from backstage.. And um who do you think you are tears?.. Getting out of my eyes!” he captioned the post.
Later, he shared a meme of the singer beaming on stage, writing, “World, now you know,” referring of course to Lovato’s powerful voice.
It’s hard to believe that this was the singer’s first time onstage at the Grammys, but even more incredible that it was her first time there at all. Lovato told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that she didn’t want to attend until she was presenting, performing, or nominated, and thus last night was her very first time at the show.
After that performance, we have a feeling it won’t be her last.
