Olivia Wilde loves the idea of being able to wear your workout clothes outside of the gym, but it's not for the reason you'd expect. While many are reaching for leggings, trainers, or fitness-inspired outerwear because it's trendy (hello, Alexander Wang for H&M), Wilde likes the athleisure movement because of its health expect. "It definitely makes you want to work out more," the actress tells InStyle at the Conscious Commerce x Birchbox launch event. "It's less of a hassle because you get more done in a day. You know, we're busy."
But her love for athleisure goes beyond just the ease. "I think the message you send with it is not 'I starve myself to make myself thin,' it's, 'I work for this, I work out and I'm proud of my muscles,'" she says. "And I think that's the message I see, I hear, when seeing people in their activewear walking down the street. I think, 'Good for you, you're showing off that you work hard to keep yourself healthy."
As for the secret to getting that killer physique back after a baby? "I don't have one," Wilde says. "I think there is an unrealistic expectation in the world for how women should look after they have babies, so I try not to succumb to that pressure." The actress does, however, believe that new moms, and moms in general, have a right to take care of themselves. "[Moms] should really focus on themselves and their health and wellness, and I think that naturally leads you to looking good."
