We may be midway into the month of November, but in Los Angeles (a.k.a. La-La Land), white dresses are still all the rage. Showing that the old rules, such as "no white after Labor Day," are exactly that, the old rules, Kristen Stewart, Keira Knightley, Julianne Moore and Jenna Dewan-Tatum all made for a blanc statement at the 18th annual Hollywood Film Awards tonight (Nov. 14).
Hosted by Queen Latifah at The Palladium, this year's kick-off to awards season drew quite the crowd (Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Felicity Jones were just a few of the bold-faced names at the starry extravaganza). The red carpet was a mixed bag that kept us guessing (and amped for awards season ahead!) with both jumpsuits and cocktail dresses mingling with more traditionally cut gowns. But while color is often a statement for the big ticket awards shows to come, on this night, the white ensembles had a special kind of heat.
See: Kristen Stewart ditching her usual punk meets skater look for a Chanel Haute Couture white strapless cocktail dress with beaded turtleneck overlay. The ensemble hit all the right marks without straying too far from Stewart's edgy aura.
Or there's Keira Knightley, who knew just how to work the ladylike ethereal sweetness of her Giambattista Valli gown without going intro precious territory.
Meanwhile, Julianne Moore, always a red carpet favorite, opted for a modern sleeved column by Balenciaga that played with light by mixing sheers and solids. (Besides, the white canvas, so to speak, was the perfect frame for her fiery strands.) The interplay certainly kept you looking-- we couldn't take our eyes off her!
