Be still, my heart: Could this possibly be the music video of the summer?
Thanks to the magic, wonder, icon, fashion king that Calvin Klein Chief Creative Officer Raf Simons is, The xx has delivered a video for “I Dare You” and dare we say it, it’s damn cool. Starring Millie Bobby Brown and Paris Jackson—we’ll let that settle in for a second—the minutes-long clip is an homage to the sunny city of Los Angeles. It easily looks as though it could live on its own as a super mini movie.
According to WWD, Simons joined photographer and filmmaker Alasdair McLellan for the project, tapping Klein muses like Bobby Brown and Jackson, along with Moonlight actor Ashton Sanders (please check out his style), models Lulu and Ernesto Cervantes, and The xx band members Jamie Smith, Romy Madley Croft, and Oliver Sim.
Because nothing in Simons’s super minimal, sublimely chic world can be standard, the crew shot the video at two locations: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Sowden House and John Lautner’s Rainbow House. If you’re a design freak, this is basically the best day ever. A part of a trilogy of videos from their latest album, “I See You,” it’s all about celebrating the City of Angels.
It’s “our love letter to Los Angeles, a city close to our hearts, where we wrote and recorded parts of our album ‘I See You,’” the band told WWD. In it, each character takes on a ‘70s-like sunny L.A. approach. Bobby Brown portrays a manipulative little sister attempting to get her older sis in trouble for seeing a boy. As you’ll see, she later gets her heart broken. The fashion is super clean, super casual. And it’s everything.
Later, Paris Jackson lends her naturally cool aesthetic to the camera alongside her fictional love interest, played by Sanders.
