Throughout the last year, we pulled the cast of Insurgent out from their dystopian existence and photographed them in the most beautiful scenes around the world for the pages of InStyle magazine. Stars like Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and our very own April cover girl, Kate Winslet, traded their faction uniforms for designer duds shot in luxe locations, from Italy to the California coast.
We're celebrating the film's release this weekend by republishing the images we heart most. Scroll down to see highlights from the photo shoots and our interviews.
Before she was on InStyle's cover for June 2014, we chatted last March with Woodley in L.A. about filming Divergent. “The fight choreography was scary," she revealed. "I have scars.”
In August 2014, the 28-year-old—who plays one of Dauntless's top-ranked members—told us "...My agent once told me that if I wanted to play a lead, I should take more time in the morning: ‘Do your hair, wear shirts that fit a little better, and go to the gym a bit more.’ I was like, ‘It’s all about the acting, man.’ He was like, ‘This is Hollywood.’ He was right."
Much like her Dauntless character, Waterhouse doesn't shy away from the action. In our March 2015 issue, the actress, photographed in Malibu, Calif., revealed that she's a brown belt in karate. “I wish I’d kept it up, but being hit in the boobs when you’re first getting them was horrible,” she said.
When asked which faction he would be in inside our March 2015 issue, Elgort said, "Probably Amity. I’d like to work the fields and eat good food and be around pretty girls and stuff. I don’t want to live too high-pressure of a life."
Fun fact: "I pulled Shai's pants down during one of the action sequences," James told us inside the March 2014 issue, photographed in Positano, Italy.
