I have, without a doubt, tried to dress like The Weeknd. I’ve purchased his Legend of the Fall 2017 world tour merch. I’ve memorized nearly every lyric off Starboy. And I’ve totally tried to make the skinny black jeans with oversize denim jacket happen. Plain and simple: I think he’s cool.
If we’re on the same page, then the 27-year-old hitmaker’s new collaboration with Puma is the new launch you’ll want to mark your calendars for. We first saw a glimpse of the musician’s work with the sportswear brand last November, with the launch of the “Run the Streets” campaign. But on Aug. 25, the singer-turned-designer’s “Parallel” high-top shoes for Puma will hit retailers like Kith, The Webster, and Barneys for $220.
“I feel like the Puma shoe is a part of the Starboy world. It’s the shoe Starboy would wear. We actually revealed we were first working with Puma in the Starboy video. We’re already evolving in the next phase of our collaboration, so I’m gonna keep that a secret,” he tells Footwear News in the latest cover story. “Usually when I reinvent myself, I like to get rid of everything in my closet and replace it with how I’m feeling during that album phase. It never changes drastically, though; rather just very slightly over time.”
In addition to the shoes, his line will also feature T-shirts, pants, and denim jackets this fall, though the first push is the new “Parallel” shoe available in white and olive.
As for who he’d like to see in the kicks, it’s a no-brainer. “To be honest, I just want to see everyone wearing it. I want it to be part of pop culture. I want to walk down the street and see kids wearing it and women wearing it. I want to see the Pope wearing it. I want to see [Barack Obama] wearing it. I want to see Elon Musk wearing it.”
But the big question is: Will we see girlfriend Selena Gomez in them?
